I've never tried digital minimalism in aspects mentioned in the prompt, I bet I've always been more of a "More is more" person not, "Less is more" when it comes to my devices storage but that habit have been changing for a while now. I still wonder how I've been able to live that way.
I think the habit changed drastically when I got new devices that I bought with my own money. Before these devices, I've always used hands me down phones and so they were mostly filled with different stuffs that I would either find them useful to delete or feel too lazy to get rid of them.
Leading a minimalistic digital lifestyle is more than just saying it, I've learned. I only got to achieve it when I became very intentional about what goes in and out of my devices, always ready to delete or stop some things coming in to my files at all. The lifestyle have been a lot easier.
Does the thought of digital minimalism make me nervous? At first, it was for me. Because I got the opportunity to spend some time on a friend's phone and I was envious of how free spaced and easy accessed the apps and files were in her phone. Her only secret was, she removes whatever she didn't need and I was the opposite.
When I had to decide to pick up that habit, it wasn't easy at all. I got nervous about the countless useless stuffs in my phone and didn't know where to start until after many procastination. Today, when I want to declutter my device, I would always start with my gallery.
That aspect of my devices is always cluttered, from photos to videos, especially with the unnecessary ones that I had to download for a one-time use. Before, I'd be scared to even go there to do my declutter work but not anymore. Now, I just go there daily to get rid of whatever.
My next place to break distractions in my device is my email section. The last time I went there, I was asking myself when I subscribed to a lot of some of them that I wasn't aware of. They were so many that I just took my time to unsubscribe from most of them and even some familiar ones.
Deleting apps that are not being used are a must for me, my phone even notifies me when I've not used a particular app for over a month and asks if I want to open or uninstall it. That's a good checker feature for me to keep decluttering even with less stress, the apps I have are useful now.
What does a simple, clutter-free digital life feels like for me? Simple, easy, fast, free and fun! That's my experience when I get intentional. There's nothing like having a free spaced phone that is fast when you have to do stuffs urgently. Digital minimalism is a better life, I'd say.
