This particular kind of post coming from me would have been a lie some years ago because I honestly did not prioritise medical checkup as I do now. I was like the many others who would fall sick first before I think of doing anything for my health and over time, I've learned it's a bad habit.
The first time I did a medical checkup when I wasn't feeling sick was like a force or maybe I should say, I was taking advantage of the opportunity. I worked in a hospital for about six months and I had a lot of chances so I took it and I checked my health status all round, totally free.
While we don't get to say it that often, medical checkup cost some money that many are reluctant to pay, it was same for me back then. I'm very sure I wouldn't have bothered to check my health status if I was going to pay for it. I'm glad I did, it was the day I found out I had ulcer.
Anyone having knowledge about ulcer would know it doesn't act up much until it gets severe and you start feeling the pain all over your stomach to the back, thankfully, mine didn't get to that point because I ran a test early enough and I was able to keep it at a safe state since then.
That same day, I got to find out other details about my health and I know better about myself health wise when I have to make some decisions or have some meals. Before that day, I honestly didn't see the need since I was always healthy and I was scared to see what the results show.
Yes, I've actually witnessed people go from a harmless medical checkup to serious health issues that even take the lives of some because they found out late. Because of scenarios like that, people think it's better to not know and live their lives as long as they've been staying healthy.
The truth still remains that, it's way better for regular checkups to get early diagnosis in case of a serious illness and to know what you should continue taking into and out of your system in case of no serious illness. We tend to mistake medical checkups only detect possible illnesses.
Medical checkup will also help you calculate, decide or know better how you should live your life to stay healthy. It's during medical checkup some people find out they have a good system but needs as little as regular intake of water or fresh fruits to keep that system good as always.
The fear of the unknown is normal for everyone but letting that deprive our health from what it needs, a check up and preventive measures if cleared, is what we must not take for granted. I've learned better to prioritise my health especially since recently that I've been from one medical checkup to another sorting for a better health.
