Have I ever been scammed? The answer is NO!! Although I've heard news of people being scammed in one way or the other.
I think in Naija, we have all been scammed in one way or the other; it's no big news, hahaha. Either by an online vendor, Aboki, or you name it, lol, but where they scam people the most is in school, hahaha. Those freshers always go through a lot because they're always victims of scams 😂😂
I've heard so much news about how people get scammed just by clicking on a phishing link, it's not new news. Imagine all your life savings going down the drain because you clicked on a stupid link. One thing I'll advise people is not to click on every link they see, especially if it's too good to be true. Sometimes, we're just greedy and want free $1m just from doing nothing; we all know it's too good to be true, yet some people want to claim the reward they've been given.
I remember one time when I had an issue with my bank account, and Since it was Friday, I had to go very early. Even with the fact that it was early, I was still far behind in line because the bank was packed with so many people. While I was waiting in line for my turn, an elderly lady who was in her late 30s ran inside the bank with tears in her eyes.
Well everyone was surprised to see her cry, but I think everyone at that moment knew the reason why she was crying 😂( it's not a hospital, so, crying in the bank means you've been scammed, hahaha). Everyone made way for her as she rushed to complain to one of the staff. It was a painful one because all her savings were wiped out.
So the gist is that her 12-year-old took her phone and was playing games with it when a message popped up with a very catchy headline. As soon as he clicked on the link, and God knows what else he must've entered, that was how they started to debit her. It was later that Thursday night when she collected her phone from her son only to find out that all her money had been debited. It was too late to go to the bank, and also too late because by, the time she got a hold of her phone, they had already debited all her money. I didn't hear the other side of the gist, because she was taken to another office, but I Believe it would be very hard or impossible to recover her money back.
As for me, staying safe online is one of my top priorities. It might be all fun and lovely in this space until you click on a phishing link and they wipe all your money. First things first, don't click on every link you see. This is one of the biggest mistakes most people make, imagine winning $90 just by sitting at home 😂 .
Google is my best friend, so I always make sure to do my own research about certain news before clicking on any links sent to me.
Secondly; Don't expect money from things you didn't apply for. Remember this catizen airdrop? So after everything, I got just two $cati lol. A few days later, I got a notification that I had over 1000 unclaimed $cati in safe reward, and all I needed to do was input my ton address and other info for it to be sent to my wallet. I was happy at first, but I just knew it was too good to be true 😂
My advice to staying safe online is to not click on any link you see, even tho it's been sent by a friend; always try to research it before clicking, and if it's too good to be true, then it's probably too good to be true.
Stay safe out there, the Internet is a wild place. They're even ready to wipe your pot of stew if possible 😂😂
Thanks for stopping by 🤗 ❤️
