Hello! It has been a while since I was able to post anything at all on HIVE. I'd love to say that it was a break because I was going to do something cool and needed to spend my time on it, but the truth is much more disappointing - my laptop has had a malfunction and it would simply be unable to load anything graphically heavy. On top of that, any movement of my laptop screen would result in going blank.
While I did not manage to fix the issue, after slightly more than a week, I did find a workaround that makes it so that I can at least use it constantly for simple tasks such as writing. Sadly, that means that playing a League ARAM game or even Skyweaver on my laptop is extremely frustrating, but I guess it's a good time to stay away from games!
Alright, after this lengthy off-topic introduction, let's get to the actual topic of the post - WOO! It is a project that just had its whitelisted alpha pre-sale happening and I was lucky to be a part of it, having bought just over 100 packs.
What is WOO?
WOO stands for Wrestling Organization Online and it is a project - as the name obviously suggests - focused around Wrestling. I suggest you check out their posts over at @wrestorgonline, where you can find the Whitepaper, the link to their Discord, as well as a lot of information about their gameplay.
To put it fairly short, it will be a wrestling management game, which will likely come out somewhere in the beginning of 2023, so still a fair bit of wait until we get there. That not only means that the wait will be long though - it also means you can be one of the early adopters; and we all know how well-off early adopters tend to end up if the project succeeds.
In the meantime, there is still a lot happening - in the next part of the post I'll talk about the presale that happened just a few days ago, but there is much more! WOO runs a weekly Splinterlands tournament with some packs as prizes, there are also multiple giveaways ongoing at most times - currently they're giving away a golden Tarsa! Furthermore, they have a fairly active Discord community.
The Alpha Pre-Sale
As I mentioned, I was able to be a part of the pre-sale for the WOOAlpha packs - the first set of NFTs in the project. The pre-sale consisted of 10k packs costing $2 each, with only whitelisted members of the community being able to purchase packs. Each of the packs contains 5 wrestlers (or managers), which in the future will be a part of the game. It is worth saying that it was a huge success, with all of the supply being sold out within hours of the gates opening.
This pre-sale was 1/6 of the whole set, as there are going to be a total of 60k WOOAlpha, with 10k being pre-sale and the rest being divided between the giveaway pool and the general sale that will happen some time in the future. Personally, I bought just over 100 packs, meaning I own around 0,167% of the whole set and around 1% of the currently existing cards. Yay!
I opened my packs up until I had 50 left, as I wanted to test my luck, but also decided to keep some sealed. The two reasons for that decision were the fact that I wanted to leave an option for myself to resell alter at a higher price, but also that having unopened packs can lead to some benefits in the future, as hinted by the WOO team. I think I had a pretty average luck with my pack opening, having opened one copy of each of the legendaries, as well as a Gold Belt version of a common card.
I have one of each legendary wrestler - which are actually less rare than an epic manager!
What is quite interesting is that in the whole 60000 alpha packs, there will only be a total of around 85 of each gold common card - that is an incredibly low amount, so I am happy with mine! In fact, it let me become a part of WOO history, as I was part of the first peer-to-peer card trade in the game, landing this gold belt in my collection:
The Future
I'll round this off by talking about what WOO's future might be like. I could just quote the roadmap or so, but I'd rather present some of my thoughts instead.
First of all, the next thing that is happening is the distribution of the airdrops that will be rewarded to those who had participated in the pre-sale. The perks are two-fold. First of all - and to my understanding this will happen at a later date - we will receive a number of WOO tokens corresponding to the amount of packs we bought. This is really nice and will be a great headstart for whenever uses for WOO come out - be it in-game uses or things like Diesel Pools and other benefits before that. The second airdrop will be so-called "Perry Saturn Packs", which will have a chance to contain the incredibly rare Perry Saturn card - exclusive to this pre-sale (think Chain Golem or Dr Blight in SPL).
Now, this kind of airdrops are normal, but for me this is amazing, because this also is a result of a partnership with Perry Saturn - a former professional wrestler. Both this and the Raven partnership make me excited, as it is clear the devs have ties to the world of wrestling, making them the right people doing the right thing. WOO also seems to want to support independent wrestlers, which is absolutely fantastic - especially as I really enjoy watching less-known wrestlers in completely amateur-looking settings. It just feels so much more real than the big stages to me! I would love to see WOO partner with a small-time amateur wrestler in the future and help them devote themselves to their passion more!
The future holds much more, however, as WOO will be introducing land before the main game comes out as well - after all, someone needs to own all the venues the wrestling matches will take place on. Between the wrestler collaborations, land, the game and the hopefully growing community - I can't help but be extremely excited for what is to come!
Closing Words
All in all, I really can't wait for.. about everything related to WOO! I want to already rip some of my Perry Saturn packs open, I wanna hear about more gameplay details, the land sale cannot come soon enough.. There is just so much coming for this project and I am happy to have joined as early as I did.
