Hello Hive
A pleasant evening to my creative friends. Hope our day went well and that we are enjoying a good weather.
This evening I want to share with us the making process of how I had cut and sewn a trouser for my sister.
Before today I have sewn her a top from this fabric but wasn't sure of how to cut and sew a trouser.
Sewing trouser has been giving me some challenges recently especially when I try sewing trouser for different sizes of people.
I always do not want to end up as a mediocre in anything I do hence I continue to practice and seek to learn more tutorial until I get better at a thing. A seamstress friend of mine came around around this evening and while we gisted I decided sought for her help on how to cut and sew this trouser.
The cutting part has always been the challenge. Hence I learnt a simple method of cutting trouser from her before going ahead to do all the stitching by myself.
The measurements needed are
The waist
Hip
Empire line 9"
Crotch depth 11"
Knee length 29"
Knee circumference 18"
Full length 36"
Ankle circumference 14"
Cutting the front piece
For cutting the trouser we started with folding the fabric with the largest measurement of her hip measurement.
Measured down a crotch of 11" depth and 9" for the empire line where the hip will sit.
The exact place where I often have problems with which is the hip depth was addressed and I got a better understanding hence I was able to cut the pant
Sewing part
I started by joking the side seams allowance before joining the crotch cream allowances
Next I cut a band of 2" and inserted this one inch elastic into it
After sewing some straight stitches on the elastic it pulled the excessive band back together to her waist measurement. An important lesson I learnt was how to sew a female trouser according to various body shapes
For someone with a thick body and shape as this, trouser patterns with elastic is preferable than using zippers although we can still make the ones with zipper for them but there are rules guiding how to fix zipper to make it professional and with a neat finishing.
That completed my sisters outfit which I delivered to her today and she can now wear the two matching pieces together.
