Hello Hive
Happy new week to everyone, I hope that we are all having a good time and making progress in all our endeavors. The weather has been so favorable making it easy for us to rest properly after each day's work.
Take a look at the progress of the rice farms now, the plants has grown pretty well within this two months of planting. We were in the farm during the weekend to conclude the weeding of the rice farm and now the farm is completely neat as you can see making it very much easier for our crops to flourish well.
This first weeding was done manually without the use of chemicals. We didn't allow the grasses to overwhelm the plant before embarking on the weeding, whenever grasses overwhelms crops it caused a setback in the growth of the plants and equally makes weeding difficult. Since rice aren't often planted in ridges but in the manner you see them below, it becomes totally difficult to weed the farm manually if the grasses gets beyond control.
There are very tiny hoes designed for weeding in rice farm. Planted rice do not often have enough spacing compared to other crops hence manual weeding involves that we either pull up weeds with our hands or use these very small hoes.
These portions of our rice farms are very much ready for transplanting but the other fields where they are to transplanted to add not yet ready. We are meant to clear the bushes there and probably till the soil by turning it over. Besides most portions of our rice fields are not yet covered in which which is very essential for transplanting.
Transplanting is better done in water logged soil so that seedlings can survive after being taking to a new location. Part of the tasks we would be doing these weeks is more preparation of the fields like we have already started but after clearing the field of grasses we still need to hope for some downpours of rains that will make the soil wet enough for transplanting.
The corn within the rice plant is fast growing which is very important so that they can mature up on time and be harvested to give space to the rice to continue its growth.
This is how we often mix some crops and manage the little available lands here for farming.
Soon as the corn is havested and we are able reduce the rice quantity by transplanting to some other locations then fertilizer application will be the next stage.
