The future is bright only when we have a healthy body and mind. We need a healthy body for our physical activities and, of course, a healthy mind to think aright. Countless numbers of people have slumped and died a preventable death just because they weren't paying attention to their health.
Most sicknesses do not often leave us without a symptom as a prior notice of their presence, but life has a way of keeping us completely busy from paying attention to these symptoms and taking the necessary action steps.
Last weekend was my brother's scheduled date to see a neuro doctor, but as expected, I totally forgot. Twice in a row I had forgotten that the boy needs to see a doctor. Until some health challenges become a matter of emergency, we often take things lightly. Yesterday morning my very supportive doctor friend sent a message across to ask if I had taken some proper steps concerning my brother's health, and the answer was a NO. He then asks me to set a reminder for the next appointment, reiterating how preventive measures are better for our health and equally save costs.
Such is the attitude with most of us when we ignore necessary checkups, skip our medications, and engage in all manner of unethical behaviors.
You cannot expect to take health warning signs with levity and expect to enjoy some miracle of good health.
World Health Day crept in on us yesterday, and I can see how not many people are aware of this. Only the medical practitioners who are at the receiving ends of our complications know the importance of this day. In order to rescue the lots of our ignorant communists and to teach them about the importance of health checkups, this sensitization was held around the hospital premises.
The theme was "healthy beginning, hopeful future."
The students and staff of the university teaching hospital rallied round patients, their relatives, and community people, teaching us some of the healthy tips we will need for a good beginning if we desire to live a healthy future. The various symptoms we are to watch out for and knowing when it is important to visit the doctor rather than self-medicate.
The danger of self-medication was dished out, as this is a major concern in the community. A lot of people take unprescribed drugs just because they are trying to boycott hospital visitations. Some of these drugs are not good for our health and may further cause more harm than good.
Some basic lifestyle tips that can improve our health were also dished out. Quality rest and sleep, a good diet, and exercise. It was really evident from the sensitization that a lot of the sickness that people are suffering from and being treated for currently in the hospital, like we have seen, could have been prevented. People were more convinced because this wasn't just a theoretical teaching but was held in a hospital setting; one can see evidence of how true the matter is.
I really do hope that more of these events can be held frequently rather than on this day alone. The more people learn about these things, the safer and healthier community we would have. Also, we should be aware that the labor force of a country depends on the number of healthy people in the country.
This was the series of activities that took place yesterday at the World Health Day commemoration.
