If we think back to our school days, our memories immediately go to recess and games with our friends. Rarely did we find a group of kids saying “what fun, it's math today”. Personally, that subject was always my Achilles heel, I even had to take personal classes to improve my grades in that area. Well, in this story the Achilles heel will be the opposite: socializing and empathizing with another child. Between Tom Flynn (screenwriter) and Marc Webb (long before he directed the “worst movie in the world” [Snow White]), they make this film a beautiful drama, where we will reflect to such an extent that we will rethink many things.

Argument.
We follow the story of Frank and his little niece Mary, who, at an astonishing 7 years old, is a prodigy in mathematics and an ability of reasoning and logic so absurd that only her uncle and Roberta (neighbor and best friend in her fifties) are the only ones to understand her. Everything is complicated by the appearance of Frank's mother, Evelyn, who wants custody of her granddaughter for her own purposes.

The little girl has an immense dislike for her new classmates, who can't solve a simple 2x2 without touching their fingers, and she practically calls her teacher a fool for talking to her “like a child”. Gradually, Bonnie understands the challenge in front of her and gradually manages to motivate her to get Mary to live like the 7-year-old she is. Frank is adamant that his niece learn the basics of how to be a child, live and enjoy herself; he doesn't want her to end up like her sister Diane (Mary's mother), who was also a math prodigy and took her own life because she couldn't handle the pressure from the academics and Evelyn who were after her.
