Maintaining a Healthy Eye Sight
Our eyes are the windows to our soul as most people prefer to put it, i like to say it is the aperture to which we get to enjoy the scenery of this world, much like how you adore your phone's camera and do everything you can to take good care of it and maintain through the use of phone covers and camera covers etc, so should you be keen about your eyes.
The eye is a complicated and yet simple organ, intricate in the sense that as an extension of the brain the biochemical process which it undergoes to enable us see and the various components that work together especially the part of the brain related to sight is an interesting one, however it is simple because you only need to do a few simple things to ensure that it continues to function at optimal level.
- Diet
First and foremost, food, every organ, tissue or cell in the human body requires energy to work efficiently and the eye is an organ and so it would need to be fed to work well. The photoreceptor cells of the eyes tend to be one of the most active in the entire human body and so it becomes pertinent that we provide it with ATP to function.
Aside the food or energy, the eye does quite well when it has nutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin available to it, as well as vitamin A which is important in the biochemical photo transduction process. Vitamin C is reported by lots of academic articles to be one of the most powerful antioxidants when it comes to the eye.
And so eat well, eat healthy, ensure that you take in a balanced diet and do not forget your fruits and leafy vegetables. Your retinal strength and the how powerful you are able to see especially in dimness may depend on it.
- Spectacles/Glasses
In the developing worlds, there are so many misconceptions about the eye and one of such revolves around the use of spectacles or glasses, for which many patients end up having to live with low or reduced vision simply because their parents wouldn't allow them to not because they can't even afford which is quite sad.
In our modern society, all around us are waves and radiations that are not so harmless to the eye, this makes it important for one to have protective eye wear to keep all these away from the eye. And so even if you do not have issues seeing clearly at far or near (refractive errors or presbyopia), you still should visit your Optometrist for a pair of glasses and if you happen to work a lot of computers, do go in for the blue-block lenses before the effect of blue light catch up with you.
- Regular Eye Checkups
Early detection save sights and i couldn't emphasize on this enough, a lot of conditions end up been diagnosed by chance when one comes to the eye clinic for checkups, one of such condition is the glaucoma disease which is a sight-threatening condition that doesn't give any symptoms till vision is lost.
Unfortunately the only way this condition may be seen earlier is when your Optometrist takes a look into your eye with the health of the tools that may be available in his office. You may be just going for a regular exams because of this article however you never know the good you may be putting yourself through, you may have just saved your sight as well as that of your kids.
- Exercises
We all know that workouts are of immense benefit to the body, and yes they eye benefits too. Some studies reported a reduction in intraocular pressure for those who had it quite high after they starting working out. It also help wit blood circulation to the eye and in some cases it could help clear out tiny clots that may have formed in the vasculature.
So you should work out too, do not overdo it though and make sure is within your strength range, you could have professional guidance too with regards to that it would help a lot. Staying healthy would not only do your eyes a lot of good but your eyes too.
- Over the Counter Medication
Did you know that taking drugs without prescription from your licensed healthcare provider is considered drug abused? Well over the counter medications are not necessarily harmful however not knowing exactly what's wrong and going in for drugs because of symptoms could be very dangerous.
This is because lots of conditions within the body tend to have resembling symptoms, sometimes pains may be emanating from a source that you do not even feel it there actually due to the structure of the nervous system and so it is recommended that you always seek care and diagnosis before taking any medication, you may have just saved your sight as a result.
Conclusion
These are some few tips or things you could do to ensure that this year you continue to have a healthy eye and a good sight, as i stated in the beginning the eye is quite simple in these things and you realize that these are not anything you cannot do if you make just a little effort towards them.
And so this year, 2023, i wish you a healthy eyesight and a great health in general, i hope you eat well and stay health through regular exercises and regular checkups, do not forget to go in for glasses for protection and always be cautious in everything you do. Thank you for your time.
