Let's be sincere; a lot of people, at least from this part of my world, hardly prepare and visit the hospital solely for medical checks. It's rare to see such intentional people over here. Most times, people see the need to go for medical checks only when they feel uncomfortable over some symptoms in their body. Health checks, to some persons, are one of their last priorities out of many in the list. However, it's never the best way to go, but we will always have reasons to back up our actions.
Am I an exception? Maybe not, but I am beginning to turn a new leaf. At least this year, I have gone to see the doctor twice. One was to check and see that I was fine; the second visit was when I noticed an unusual pain. I decided not to buy pain reliever but to consult a doctor for some diagnosis, which cost me a lot, but it was obviously worth it after a series of tests was done. Prevention is better than cure is a popular statement that almost everyone is aware of, but yet, not everyone acts on it. It's what it is. The economy is too harsh, so once we feel strong enough, we have no reason to go to the hospital but keep hustling for food and other basic needs, which comes at a high cost. Imagine asking a family who can barely eat once a day to go for medical checks. What matters to them is food to survive and not hospitals, especially when they have no symptoms or any serious discomfort.
There is another common belief that going to the hospital for a medical checkup will definitely unveil other health issues by the medical practitioner, and so the fear of discovering such underlying sickness will make people not consider health checks, especially when they feel that they are alright. The truth is that, if you don't have any underlying sickness, it won't be discovered upon medical checks; it could only be discovered if you actually have a hidden sickness within your body. And who says it's not an advantage to you? That's the purpose of going for routine medical checks because early detection saves lives and prevents uncertainties to a large extent.
Having said that, there was also a time I did overall health checks, and nothing was detected in my body at that time. I believe that not all the time that one has hidden health issues, but to be on the safer side, checking at intervals is the best for anyone who can keep up with these health practices. There have been instances of people who, through general checks, discovered a challenging hidden sickness, and it got treated immediately before it escalated and possibly caused harm. Something like BP, sugar level, is supposed to be kept in check regularly, whether we feel strong within or not.
In summary, we can never go wrong with practicing routine medical checkups. My experience so far has been great even though I don't visit more often, but maintaining a healthy life requires that we make our health one of our top priorities.
