This post is about a reflection on vital areas that need improvement in my town and not in my country per se; however, my country has remained a developing country for decades, and that has posed a great negative effect on my town. If my country is well structured and functional, and if we are blessed with great leaders who understand what it means to lead the nation rightly, my town will definitely be positively affected. There will be less negativity to talk about, but what happens when the foundation is faulty?

I hail from Nsukka in Enugu State, Nigeria. Since I was a child, I have observed one of the most pressing issues facing the community, and that is the lack of health care facilities and competent health professionals. I can vividly remember how a mother of seven children died in our village hospital of complications. Before they could transfer the poor woman from the village to the city, where she could have received the right medical treatment, she died! I also noticed how children died carelessly due to one emergency or another, for which they lacked treatment. There was also a case of my cousin's wife in labor, and suddenly complications arose. She was fighting between life and death, and my elder brother was sent to visit the city, which would take 6 hours to go and return in search of a drug for her, but she died before my brother returned. The list is endless, and the issue of poor health care has been in my town since my childhood to date.
Even our youth who strive to study medicine and surgery end up leaving the town for a bigger city in search of greener pasture, and I wouldn't blame anyone for their actions; after all, we all desire a better life. The health facility is one area where I wish there could be improvement.
Another area that needs improvement in my country is the electricity supply, of course. To be honest, we could go through 3 months of total blackout; in fact, everyone is getting used to it already. Whenever I am visiting my hometown from the city, I will prepare my mind for the epileptic electricity supply in my town. Charging gadgets or even watching TV is always a problem in my town, except if you own a generator and are ready to spend on fuel. Constant electricity supply has never happened in my town since I was born, and each time I tell my friends about it, they use it to tease me a lot. Haha, not that my town is a typical village, but this electricity issue has refused to just improve.
Recently, there have been improvements on our road. Lots of people who haven't visited the town for years couldn't recognize our road any longer. I was so impressed by that aspect, and I hope that other areas such as security and quality education will be improved for the good of my town.
Lack of water supply has been an issue that needs urgent attention. I expected that by now, there would be boreholes scattered around the town for easy access to water instead of going to the stream like we used to do those past years. Despite how costly food items are, it's sad to be spending on basic amenities like water, which should be made available to the masses.
It will really be beautiful to see these areas improve in my town someday.
Overall, it takes good leaders who can manage resources and understand the welfare of their citizens to close the gap and make these improvements a reality.
