Right from the time i was a kid, I have always loved moving around from one place to another. Traveling is a hobby i was born with, though due to the demanding nature of my work and due to the that i do have motion sickness when i travel.
I can do anything just to get the trill of travelling. Most times, i love traveling in the night. Though its way more risky than traveling during day time, i prefer it because there are less people on the road, thus, less traffic stops.
Speak of risky, I remember when I made a travel blog two years ago. In that blog, i talked about how i traveled from Umuahia, Abia state to Imo state with a tricycle. The road was lonely even during day time. You can read the post here if you want.
For a very long time now, I have not embarked on long distance travels due to how demanding my job an be. I only get two days off in a week which is barely enough to rest, talk more of traveling long distance. My trip for the past few month has majorly been from umuahia to aba, and from Aba back to Umuahia. According to google, the distance from umuahia to aba is about 65.5km which will take about 1hr 6mins to cover. I think it depends on the car's speed cause' when i'm travelling, i get to Aba in less than 50 minutes.
Early this month, i was placed on 5 days night duty. So, i had to make good preparations before i travel so as not to forget anything in umuahia.
Seated comfortably in the passengers seat at the front, I placed my headphones on my ears, and increased the music volume to the highest. Just like every other journey, the journey started peacefully. While enjoying the music and the journey, I was looking at different buildings on the road.
It was quite a long drive, but we finally go to our destination. In the bus park, I saw things that made me feel really bad. People with different health challenge were in the park begging for money. Some were congenital problems, while some health problems were caused by accidents.
When i asked around, they told me that some of them were thieves. When they caught them stealing, the community decided to cut off one or two of their body parts to teach them a lesson.
It was a bad sight, but then, there was absolutely nothing i could do to help, so, i continued with my journey to the hospital. After walking for a while, i got to another car park where street boys help car owners get passengers. Over here, we call these street boys agbero.
When i was passing the car park, one agbero held my bag tight and insisted that I enter the bus he was loading. This was happening in the night. Aba is a place known by many for its rascality. When the guy held my bag, a passerby whispered to me that i should hold my bag tight oo.
After much struggle, I took back my bag, and left. After walking for a while, I noticed two agbero following me. Instead of following a shortcut that is always lonely, i followed a longer road that is always busy. When they saw this, they stopped following me.
That was how i got to my lodge in the hospital, changed, and went straight to work to begin my night duty.
