Growing up as a kid, i barely spent time with my parents due to the nature of their job. Both worked 9 to 5. They were actively working so as to secure a better life for me and my brothers. This resulted in less time spent with them except in the night when they came back from work. In rare occasions, they come back in the evening.
With nobody around to checkmate my activities, i began to enjoy the freedom. I did what i wanted to do. When my parents came back, i pretend to be the good boy they knew but when they left for work the next day, i returned to being a stubborn child. As time went on, arrogance began to creep in. Nobody could tell me what to do exept my parents. I was constantly fighting with my elder brother because i refused to obey him. Welp, i never won the fight though.
I dare not report to my parents that i was in a fight with my elder brother. They will beat the stubbornness out of me. As kind as my elder brother was, he too refused to report to them because he didn't want them to punish me.
Time flew and my parent began to notice the change in me. They noticed that i was getting out of control, so, they took actions. They gave my elder brother full authority to discipline me anytime I was stubborn. They too joined in. After every round of being disciplined, my mom will always preach to me about the importance of obedience and humility.
In her words, humility opens doors to a lot of opportunities. Nobody became rich by being stubborn. I heard this words for many years before i fully understood the message she was trying to pass.
Obedience and humility is very vital in everything we do in life. Show your boss how stubborn you are, and he will fire you without remorse. Show your business partners that you're not humble enough to be loyal, and they will cut you off and look for another humble partner without remorse.
