We took advantage of the summer that is felt in Portugal and headed to a new city.
On the outskirts of the Galician region, the picturesque municipality of Minho enjoys varied facets that captivate the most diverse palates. Between the historical treasures and the natural charms, full of sea, rivers and mountains, it is difficult to exhaust the possibilities for discovery and leisure in Caminha.
As soon as we leave the highway and enter the national highway that connects to the city center, we are surrounded by greenery (trees and mountains). We didn't pass any cars on these km of road, we opened the windows and could hear the birds chirping and the cicadas singing in broad daylight as if we were in the middle of the forest. For this reason alone, the 100 km we traveled to get here was worth it.

Aproveitamos o verão que se faz sentir em Portugal e rumamos a uma nova cidade.
Nos arredores da região galega, o pitoresco município minhoto desfruta de variadas facetas que cativam os mais diversos paladares. Entre os tesouros históricos e os encantos naturais, repletos de mar, rios e montanhas, é difícil esgotar as possibilidades de descoberta e lazer em Caminha.
Assim que saímos da autoestrada e entramos na nacional que faz a ligação ao centro da cidade, ficamos rodeados de verde (árvores e montanhas). Não passamos por nenhum carro nestes km de estrada, abrimos os vidros e conseguíamos ouvir o chilrear dos pássaros e o cantar das cigarras em plena luz do dia como se estivéssemos no meio da floresta. Só por isto já valeram os 100 Km que fizemos até aqui chegar.

We chose to leave the car on the outskirts and discover the city on foot.
Caminha reveals itself as a place where the past and present intertwine harmoniously, where the river meets the sea and where the human part merges with natural beauty.
We went from street to street and saw a tower in the distance with a kind of door.
This tower is the only remaining vestige of the three entrances that opened in the old town wall. Facing south, it was originally designated as Porta de Viana, as it was from there that one headed towards Viana do Castelo, representing the main access to the town.
In 1673, it was equipped with a public clock, and then became known as the Clock Tower.

Optamos por deixar o carro na periferia e descobrir a cidade a pé.
Caminha revela-se como um local onde o passado e o presente se entrelaçam harmoniosamente, onde o rio se encontra com o mar e onde a parte humana se funde com a beleza natural.
Fomos passando de rua em rua e vimos ao longe uma torre com uma espécie de porta.
Esta torre é o único vestígio remanescente das três entradas que se abriam na antiga muralha da vila. Orientada para sul, era originalmente designada como Porta de Viana, pois era por ali que se seguia em direção a Viana do Castelo, representando o principal acesso à vila.
Em 1673, foi equipada com um relógio público, passando então a ser conhecida como Torre do Relógio.

After passing through the door, we came across a large square full of tourists, pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago and motorcyclists.
Praça Conselheiro Silva Torres, known locally as Terreiro, is the focal point of the town, becoming a kind of outdoor living room. Filled with terraces of pastry shops and cafes, this square is exclusively pedestrian, allowing children to play freely around the fountain - a piece of urban art with almost 500 years of history.

Após passarmos a porta deparamo-nos com um grande largo repleto de turistas, peregrinos do caminho de Santiago e motars.
A Praça Conselheiro Silva Torres, conhecida localmente como Terreiro, é o ponto focal da vila, tornando-se numa espécie de sala de estar ao ar livre. Repleta de esplanadas de pastelarias e cafés, esta praça é exclusivamente pedestre, permitindo que as crianças brinquem livremente ao redor do chafariz - uma peça de arte urbana com quase 500 anos de história.

Everything around it dates back to centuries past: in the 12th century, Terreiro was a vast expanse of sand, but around six centuries ago it became the epicenter of the inhabitants.
As they say here, "Wherever you go, do as you come", and for that reason we went to a terrace and took the opportunity to quench our thirst and even our hunger (for Oreo ice cream).

Tudo ao seu redor remonta a séculos passados: no século XII, o Terreiro era uma vasta extensão de areia, mas há cerca de seis séculos atrás transformou-se no epicentro dos habitantes.
Como cá se costuma dizer " A terra onde fores ter, faz como vires fazer", e por esse motivo fomos até uma esplanada e aproveitamos para matar a sede e a mais pequena a fome (de gelado de Oreo).
