On Sunday I did a break from running. However I went for a small hike in the late morning with some friends. We went to Riatzau Alm, which is in the Kaisertal, and there we played some card games. The hike up is about 4 km long with 670 vertical meters. This means I made my goal for the vertical challenge and was able to do about 4570 vertical meters last week 😊 I will try to do 5000 vertical meters this week.
Monday, May 21
The next day I went for an easy uphill run with a lot of up and down. In total I did 10.89 km and 620 vertical meters with an average heart rate of 149 bpm. Here are some details of the run:
Tuesday, May 22
Today I did the trail on which I will be racing in 25 days on June 17. It is 21 km long with 1000 vertical meters and also goes through the Kaisertal. I already participated last year, but in the longer race with 33 km and 1600 vertical meters. This year I will be doing the shorter race, because I am running together with a friend. Today I managed to finish it in 02:16:59. I am quite happy about that time. On last years race I would have finished in 12th position with that time. However the winner was still 27 minutes faster and finished in 01:50:21. I had a look at the split times of the winner and found that I lost most time in the first section, which is an extreme uphill with almost 1000 vertical meters in 5 km. At that section I was about 20 minutes slower than the winner. This means I definitely have to improve my uphill performance. Here is a picture from the top of the climb:
