This is a question that keeps bugging my mind because sometimes when I see people suffering and living poor, I wish I could do something about it but what can I do? Nothing but to help myself not to be poor, and one of the ways is by understanding financial literacy and what it entails. I want to break through poverty and have a financial stability life.
Poverty is a disease and has eaten deep into a lot of people, and in most cases, I feel people are the cause of their problem because of laziness and procrastination at an early age. Coming from a poor background shouldn't be an excuse not to break the chain. Just like my good friend, @intishar said: you were born poor was not your mistake but if you die poor, it is your mistake. So many youths nowadays prefer to blame external factors on their inability to start something that could lead the way to financial stability for them. Lazy people will always find an excuse just like what the Holy Bible says; "the lazy man says there is a lion in the streets" (Proverbs 26:13).
A lazy man who cannot work hard will live his life in penury. My parents never own any property but I made up my mind not to settle at such a level. Their poor status shouldn't be an excuse for me not to define the best life I want for myself and I am working every day to escape poverty.
Many self-reinforcing disadvantages make it impossible for people to break the cycle of poverty which is also known as "poverty trap" and this happens when those that are poor do not have few or any resources that are necessary to escape poverty such as education, capital to start a business, or even connection. In the aspect of connection, relationships and forming a strong bond between poor and rich individuals is paramount to having higher earnings in life. As a result of poverty, the poverty-stricken people do not have access to economic and social resources and this can lead them to remain poor throughout their life.
Lack of job opportunities can be a brutal cycle that keeps people in poverty. We have a lot of people who keep seeking jobs out there but there are none and it makes it difficult to get out of the poverty cycle. Also, with the daily experience that I have seen and heard, I discover that people want to feel entitled. How? Something we need to know is that it is not circumstances that keep us where we are but what we think and profess about ourselves. Most individuals feel entitled to getting a job as they feel they deserve it because they spent more than four years studying at the university. If you think you deserve such accolades and try to place demands, it means you are entitled. If you are not given that job, get to work by building your profile, and start something. There are lots of digital skills to do because no one is going to lay the foundation for you, you have to do it yourself.
Another thing I feel may be the cause of the poverty cycle is choices. Most individuals make choices that could deter their progress in the journey of making wealth. Take for instance, an individual who went to school, get a good job, and then choose to get married at an early age because he feels it is the next thing to do, then responsibilities start coming in with the low income he receives at work. Such an individual will find it difficult to escape the poverty trap.
Thanks for your time on my blog.
