HOW TO GUIDE:
A breakdown of the Steps for those wishing to experiment with creating their own Elixir, I will break it down into the 3 Principles & offer several options how you can proceed with each one, depending on your means, I have included options for those wanting the whole process themselves if they have access to the right equipment & options for those that do not have any sophisticated equipment:
1. Sulfur/Essential Oil:
Option 1.
Choose the Plant you want to work with. If you have the necessary equipment to distill yourself, choose a plant that is abundant in essential oil, google is your friend you can find information on the expected yields of EO for most plants, Rosemary, Sage, Lavender these yield around 1% of their weight in Essential Oil, they are very good canditates, but so are Resins like Frankincense, Myrrh etc. which yield a whopping 10% of their weight in Essential Oil.
Option 2.
If you do not possess Distillation Equipment, you could find a good source of organic essential oil for the plant which you want to work with. You will need pure Essential Oil of the plant you choose to work with, not an Absolute.
2.1 Mercury/Spirit/Alcohol:
Option 1.
If you choose to distill your own Plant Material, you can do it the proper ancient way & take your leftover Plant Material place it in a Fermentation Jug & add some brewers yeast with optionally some sugar added to kickstart the fermentation.
Once the fermentation is over filter out the resulting “Wine”.
Option 2.
You can purchase pure Ethanol commercially if you have no other option, you will need 96%ABV for this ideally derived from grapes, this can be found in most places, just be sure to buy Food-Grade alcohol, DO NOT use Denatured Alcohol. If you have no access to 96% Alcohol(American 200proof), then you can buy a high-proof distilled alcohol (vodka, brandy) & purify it to get out the remaining water. For that check the salting method below Option 3.
2.2 Purification of Your Ethanol/Spirit in case of Option 1.
Now you will need to purify your fermented wine until you get pure alcohol or at least 96% ABV.
Here you have 3 Options.
Option 1.
The first is to Distill it, you will need to do several runs for this to get it as pure as possible. You should stop your distillation when temperatures start reaching 90C, this will begin to be mostly water. Since Ethanol & water form an azeotropic mixture they are very hard to separate and even when distillation begins at 77-78C there will be water coming along with the alcohol.
After each run take your final distillate & redistill. See below in option 2 how to salt out the Alcohol to get it as pure as possible.
Option 2.
You can also freeze distill your “Wine”, put it into your freezer (ideally use a Plastic Bottle so it does not Explode in the freezer) if you use glass then make sure to leave enough room in the bottle to allow the Ice to expand.
Once frozen take your bottle & simply place it upside down on top of a container, the alcohol will thaw out first & you will be left with a clear plug of ice in your bottle. Using this Trick you can get your alcohol to about 40% at best. Since the freezing point will decrease at that point where a normal household freezer at -30C won’t be able to freeze it any further.
Here you can continue with the step below to concentrate it to 96%-100%(200 proof)
Option 3.
You could just salt out all of the Water, you can do this with any high-proof alcohol to get out the pure alcohol, or even with the fermented wine you produced from the plant itself, ideally potassium carbonate would be the best choice since it has the highest affinity to binding water to itself, but you could also use Magnesium Sulfate or Calcium Chloride, these should be easily obtainable online in larger amounts. You keep adding the chosen salt & stirring your solution, keep adding until no more salt will dissolve, don't worry about adding more than you need, the excess will sink to the bottom & your pure ethanol will float on top of the water/salt solution in a separate layer.
Ps. You can retrieve the salts by later evaporating the salt solution, depending on what you used they might contain impurities now, you can simply burn them as you would do in the step below to purify the plant body, then recrystallize with distilled water. Like this you can use the same salts if you repeat the project with another plant to purify your alcohol
3. The Purified Body/Salts.
If you have harvested your own plant material, simply burn it down to a fine white ash. To do this you can either use a Dutch-oven or cast-iron pan which is heat resistant, place your herb inside and set it on Fire, but also make a Fire underneath the container you have placed it in, it takes quite a lot of patience to not just burn your Plant but to get those Ashes as white as possible, you will need to stir the ashes around while they are being heated up by the fire once it has burned down, allowing oxygen to bind to the carbon & carry away all the impurities so that you remain with an ash that is mostly just composed of the plant salts.
If you have not harvested your own plant material & don’t have access to the Plant in your area to be able to burn it to Ash, then try to obtain it as dried herb from a store that sells it locally or online. Then proceed as above to obtain its Salts. Use the same plant as the essential oil you chose
You can use the White Ashes as they are, or you can purify them one further step, by leeching the salts with distilled water, filtering out the residue & then evaporating the water to obtain the crystalline salts in their pure form.
A note: Most plants are 90% Potassium Carbonate, these are water-soluble. But there is a small portion of water-insoluble minerals like Calcium Carbonate contained in the Ashes. There are many that only use the Water-Soluble Salts, but I would think that it is a waste not to add back the full spectrum of minerals. Leeching your ashes with distilled Water is a great way to see if you properly burnt the plant body, because if you did, the solution will be transparent & clear once the ashes settle to the bottom, if you did not burn it properly, you will observe your liquid take on a yellow color. If it does you need to evaporate the salts & roast them in a fire & repeat dissolving them in distilled water, filtering & then evaporating to get your salt crystals
What I would suggest is if your liquid is clean & transparent without colour, then when you filter the remaining solution through your paper filter, keep the filter & its remains & allow it to dry out properly, then crystallize your water-soluble salts from the distilled water.
Collect these & add the remains that you dried on the paper filter together. Like this you will have your Water-Soluble Salts & Water Insoluble-Salts.
4. Completion Reunification & Marriage of your 3 Principles
Take your Essential Oil & Alcohol and marry them together first. The proportions are not so important, if you distilled the Oils yourself & fermented your own alcohol, then use all of both.
If you purchased the EO & Ethanol, then for 3-4ml’s of EO add between 100ml to no more than 500ml of Alcohol, the less you add the more potent & concentrated your final tincture will be per drop. Once these are mixed then pour in your Salts and seal the flask. Now let these digest in a warm spot or using some type of incubator which should be around body temperature. Ideally allow to digest for a month or a full lunar cycle of 28 Days.
Once they have digested you can filter off the Salts that did not react from the Tincture & Bottle it up for use.
You have created a potent initiatic medicine. By using only the most refined aspects of the Plant & giving it A body(the salts), it essentially is being revived into a new form, able to penetrate deep into Your Body. These medicines do not just have an effect on your Physical Body, but also on your Mind & Soul.
To consume it simply take between 1-10 drops added to the drink of your choice, anything works. Water, Wine, Tea, Coffee, Juice.
