Me: Oh yeah I can do that. I've thought about it. It'll be really easy. All I need to do is sew a straight line and ...
Also Me: SCREW THIS! I HATE SEWING! WHY ME! WHEN WILL IT END! WHY IS THE MACHINE DOING THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSS
But, I did it! I sewed some stuff onto some stuff for the bubble insulation to stick on the Defender windows!!!
not a sewing machine
I mean, I wouldn't look too closely - it's not the neatest job in the world, but it functions, which as as much as I can expect from my sewing...
Firstly, I cut out some strips and hemmed them. Don't look at how crooked the cut is - it really doesn't matter. I don't believe in making shit perfection when you don't see it anyway. It would have been heaps easier to buy some purpose made binding, but I thought I'd use the green cord from the curtains I made last week.
Then it was a matter of folding it over the insulation and popping in a strong magnet every so often - three at the top and two on each side. The groovy thing about this is that you could mark where the magnet was with another magnet which would hold it in place, and if it slipped, you could drag it into place with the magnet on the outside of the hem. I really love strong magnets, don't you?
And with a lot of swearing, voila! I'd only snapped two needles, littered the floor with pins, and covered myself in thread.
It fit into place perfectly. The windscreen just sits in place with the visors to hold it in. It just had to be cut to size. We'd picked up the shades from Kmart for supercheap, so the whole thing cost us like $20. Now it's not superthick like the Europeon quilting stuff they use, but it's not supercold here. And if we do take it to Europe, I might get the sewing machine out again. Maybe.
How impressed with my sewing skills are you on a scale of 1 to 'well, you actually did it'?
With Love,
