Here’s what I shared with my dev team recently:
They admitted something that hit hard — they’re afraid to go back to coding without AI. For many, it’s almost unthinkable now. Their fear?
“What if we lose access to these tools — Copilot, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.? Will we even be able to code like before?”
I get it. But here’s what I told them:
“Back in my day, interviewers used to ask us to write code in Notepad or even on a whiteboard. No syntax highlighting, no intellisense, nothing. I used to get so frustrated that I’d walk out of interviews. Why? Because to me, that signaled a lack of understanding about what it means to be a developer.
- We’re problem solvers first. The tools come and go.
- We went from coding on 2-3 MB floppy disks 👉 to Notepad 👉 to full-fledged IDEs…
- Now AI is just the next evolution in that journey.
- Refusing to use AI just because it makes life “easier” is like refusing to use a calculator because you once learned arithmetic on paper.
- It’s not about how hard or easy it is.
- It’s about solving problems — efficiently, effectively, and creatively.
- So let’s shift the focus from the tools… to the craft of problem-solving.
- Embrace the evolution. Be tool-agnostic. Be a problem solver. 💡
Of course, I used AI to better word my answer. If you want to see my raw answer, you can check it here - https://www.perplexity.ai/search/6180c205-3992-4e90-b9d4-1c4c907ca30b
