Hail to the Hive!
My wife, best mate and now fellow Captain @millycf1976 has recently stepped up and took control of the tiller on the narrowboat and learned to drive our floating home. My absence from #hive was also an absence from being able to move the boat and thus my beautiful wife stepping up to bat as it were to get things done.
I’ve always been quietly amazed at her attitude towards doing new things and in doing so putting in 110% in all she does.
The result of all this recently wasn’t just enabling us to get both of our boats into the same vicinity but also a rebirth and a new dawn if you will in our Narrowboat life journey.
It has been a revelation. We are now both enjoying moving the boat so much more than before and are also sharing the experience in a totally new way. It has given @millycf1976 a brand new perspective on the whole boatlife journey and a new appreciation of all things canal related.
In our most recent cruise together we found ourselves sharing the driving and spent more time chatting together as we cruised along than I can ever remember us doing before.
I’m really proud of her for doing this as I know she had a few fears about driving the boat and traversing through long dark tunnels but she did an amazing job and now we both benefit which is the best thing in any partnership.
We may need to move both boats next week which also be a first. Not a long distance but just around the corner. Looking forward to it now whereas before i was wondering how the hell we would manage those logistics.
We still sometimes fll into old habits with her doing locks here and there but I’m sure as we grow into this new way of doing things we will find a new pattern to share responsibilities.
It’s as the song goes a new dawn and a new day. Definitely a new life for us!!
