Discussions between people are inevitable and, most likely, at some point in our lives (even quite frequently, perhaps) we will have to argue with someone, put our point of view above the others and defend that side until the end. It is something quite interesting, because I used to fight a lot, argue and want to impose that what I think or my certainties are greater than yours, but, as a result of life experience, I have come to the conclusion that this is complete nonsense.
Many people may not understand, but I've already explained this between one text and another, about how my life, especially during my adolescence, was marked by this very thing, by arguing, cursing people, losing my temper when they didn't do or didn't agree with what I thought, and so my growth was troubled in my relationships with people. The result? I became a lonely person, without many friends, at least the closest friends, the ones who are here in my reality, in my city. I'm certainly not proud of this and I realize how wrong I acted at that time.
Today I can say that I avoid arguments as much as possible and, to be quite honest, the person I usually argue with the most is my wife, who is very stubborn and this even reminds me of my teenage years. Honestly, looking at her, it seems like I see a mirror of what I used to be, back when I wanted everyone to agree with me and I always thought I was right. This is one of her flaws that is difficult to change, but I always try to talk to her to change it. In this regard, the tip I can give to avoid arguments is basically: avoid them, that's it.

With the experience I have today, I can already sense when someone wants to fight and impose things, so when I realize this, I just walk away, let it go, because for me it doesn't make sense to win or lose an argument. It won't help me pay the bills or give me a better lifestyle, much less give me more time to enjoy with my family. Avoiding it is the best advice I can share, and it's what I tell my children, just stay away from people like that.
Now, if an argument is inevitable, well, I think you need to be calm and resilient so you don't lose your temper and resort to something worse, like physical aggression. Verbal aggression, like insults, I think often only serves to ease the moment, but I also recommend that you don't do that. If they call you a bunch of names, believe me, that's the other person's tactic. They're waiting for you to lose your temper so you can do the worst. That's why it's important to avoid it, but if it happens, keep your cool and get away from them as quickly as possible. That's what I usually do.
With my wife, when she starts saying things that, no matter how much they hurt me or are out of context, I let her talk, scream and rant. I always try to stay quiet as much as possible or just respond with "OK", "I understand", "it's fine" and so on, I let her say whatever she wants. After a while, when she calms down, then I ask to talk and see if we can reach an agreement that is good for both of us. Not all of this will always work, but it's what I try to do the most to avoid words and actions that will have serious consequences in the future.

As discussões entre as pessoas são inevitáveis e, bem provavelmente, em algum momento da nossa vida (até com certa frequência, talvez) iremos ter que discutir com alguém, colocar nosso ponto de vista acima dos demais e defender esse lado até o fim das contas. É algo bem interessante, pois já fui muito de brigar, discutir e querer impor que o que penso ou minhas certezas são maiores do que as suas, mas, como experiência de vida, cheguei a uma conclusão de que isso é uma verdadeira besteira.
Muitos podem não entender, mas entre um texto e outro já expliquei isso, sobre como a minha vida, principalmente na adolescência, foi marcada justamente por isso, por discutir, xingar as pessoas, perder a cabeça quando elas não faziam ou não concordavam com o que eu pensava e assim, foi o meu crescimento conturbado com o relacionamento com as pessoas. O resultado? Me tornei uma pessoa sozinha, sem muitos amigos, pelo menos os amigos mais próximos, de verdade, que estão aqui na minha realidade, na minha cidade. Com certeza, não me orgulho disso e percebo como agi errado demais nessa época.
Hoje posso dizer que evito ao máximo as discussões e, para ser bem sincero, a pessoa com quem costumo mais discutir é a minha esposa, que é bem cabeça dura e isso até me faz lembrar da minha época de adolescente. Sinceramente, olhando ela, parece que vejo um espelho do que já fui, naquele tempo em que queria que todos concordassem comigo e que me achava sempre o certo. Esse é um dos defeitos dela que é complicado mudar, mas toda vez tento conversar com ela para mudar isso. Nisso, a dica que posso dar para evitar discussões é basicamente: as evite, é isso.

Apenas pulo fora, com a experiência que tenho hoje, já consigo sentir quando uma pessoa quer brigar e impor as coisas, então, ao perceber isso apenas me afasto, deixo para lá, porque para mim não faz sentido ganhar ou perder uma discussão, isso não vai me ajudar a pagar as contas ou me dar um estilo de vida melhor, muito menos me dar mais tempo para curtir com a minha família. Evitar é o melhor conselho que eu posso compartilhar, inclusive é o que falo para meus filhos, apenas saiam de perto de pessoas assim.
Agora, se a discussão é inevitável, bem, acho que é preciso ter calma e resiliência para não perder a cabeça e partir para algo pior, como agressão física. A verbal, sendo xingamentos, acho que muitas vezes faz é aliviar o momento ali, mas também recomendo que não faça isso e se te xingarem de um monte de coisas, acredite, essa é a tática da outra pessoa, ela espera você perder a cabeça para que assim você faça o pior. Por isso, é importante evitar, mas se acontecer, é ter sangue-frio e sair de perto o mais rápido possível. É o que costumo fazer.
Com a minha esposa, quando ela vem falar coisas que, por mais que me machuquem ou que estejam fora do contexto, deixo ela falar, gritar e esbravejar, tento sempre ficar o máximo possível calado ou apenas respondo com um “OK”, “entendi”, “tudo bem” e assim, deixo ela falar tudo o que tem vontade. Depois de um tempo, quando ela se acalma, aí, sim, peço para conversar e ver se conseguimos entrar em um acordo que fique bom para ambos. Nem sempre tudo isso dará certo, mas é o que mais tento fazer para evitar falas e ações que terão consequências pesadas para o futuro.
