Do you stumble on something when you are bored? You are scrolling and ends up finding much better than expected? I am talking about me with podcasts this year. I wasn't even a podcast person. I used to think, "Who has time to hear people talking for an hour?" But then one night, I couldn't sleep. I broke up with music and wasn't wanting to watch anything. So I opened Spotify, researched "something interesting" and the boom - a podcast called Chris Williamson's "Modern Wisdom."
Now I'm a little addicted. Chris used to be a club promoter - Random, right? But now he is a considerate and curious guy who brings guests of all types of fields - psychologists, athletes, authors and even monks. And somehow, he always knows the right questions to ask. The first episode I heard was with James Clear, the guy who wrote atomic habits. I heard about the book, but I never read it. In this episode, they talked about how small changes can lead to major life changes. But he was not a preacher.
It looked like two friends talking about how life can be confused - and how we can do better without thinking too much. And that's what I liked. It was not a matter of being perfect or grinding 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was about being human. Another episode that hit me was with a guest named Dr. Gabor matter. He talks about trauma, addiction and how many of our problems come from childhood pain that we don't even realize we are carrying. I was literally sitting in my room like, "Wait ... it makes sense." It seemed therapy without clumsy eye contact. What is cool in this podcast is that you don't have to hear in order. You just choose what looks interesting. One day, it's about mental health, the other day is about sleeping, dating or even AI stuff. But it's always something that makes you think.
Chris is smart, but he's not trying to look smarter than you. He is just curious. And that makes you curious too. Sometimes I hear as you walk. Sometimes when I'm lying on the bed with the lights off. And that helps me slow down. With everything moving so fast - notifications, deadlines, all this noise - it's good to hear. There is no screen no hurry. It is just pure thoughts.
If you are new to podcasts and want something that really worthwhile, I would say you give a chance to modern wisdom. Especially if you like self-improvement, but you don't like vibrations of "motivational speaker" . And hey, if this is not your place, there are tons around. Maybe try Jay Shetty's purpose if you want something softer and more spiritual. Or things you should know if you are just curious about random facts. But for me, modern wisdom is the one who got stuck.
