As little kids, one of the things we do the most is dream, and that's where most of our futures are built today. Many of us have become one of those things we dreamed of being as kids, although not many have followed their dreams. Some of us left because of what life had available for us or eventually realised another dream we wanted to pursue.

I am not excluded from those kids who had so many dreams; I thought of many jobs that I wanted to do, from being a footballer to an astronaut to a doctor and eventually an Engineer.
So why did I want to be a football player?
Although most of my friends may not believe this or would possibly argue with me, football used to be my favourite sport. I loved playing football so well as a kid and envied most of the footballers on TV. I wanted to be a footballer because it felt like being paid for what you love doing instead of having to read a lot of books and theories to have knowledge on this or that. Just do what you do naturally and make your bucks.

But why am I not a football player today?
During my time, being a footballer was not an option for my parents, as they wanted me to finish school and study something more professional. As there was not much encouragement towards seeing the possibility of a future as a footballer, I had to keep dreaming of a new career.
Then I thought of becoming a lawyer.

I loved arguing, talking, and proving a point. Everyone was saying law would fit me because I was good at asking questions and wanting to know Why this is Why. I was not afraid of the crowd, and I loved winning arguments.
Then Why am I not a Lawyer today?
I hated reading books; I hated reading history and government. It put a lot of stress on my brain, and as a kid, I hated reading in general, although I found interest in reading about science topics. They fascinated me. I was better in mathematics, physics, and chemistry than I was in Civil Education, history, and government. I knew this was not my way, and I kept dreaming.

What about the possibility of being an Astronaut? Yeah, this came to mind, but I feared drying out in space or crashing on the journey. Moreover, my country does not seem like a place where it is possible to become an astronaut. I went on to keep dreaming and wanted to become something for which I was not sure what the name was at the time.
What I knew I loved doing was pressing the phone. I know where to find all the available settings on the phone. If anybody wants to solve a problem with their phone, I am the go-to person. I entirely love the software of the phone and the way the features were built. I was saying I wanted this, but I didn't know what name was given to it. I didn't know what I really wanted was to be a software engineer, focused on building operating systems, mobile applications, and all that. But still, I dreamed.

My father was an Electronics engineer, although he focused on the maintenance and repairs of Elevators and Escalators. Back in the day, my father repaired televisions and Computers. People would bring their old computers. Remember those old computers back in the day that had a back that shot out? Yeah, those are the computers my dad repaired back then.
I envied him and said I wanted to be an Engineer. I was not sure which Engineer I wanted to be, but I was more passionate about it because I loved the concept of how our phones, laptops, televisions, and even our washing machines were built. I wanted to know how they were programmed and all that. I did a little research into the different fields of engineering and found out that there was Electrical, mechanical, and Computer Engineering.
I had to find out what each field was for, and along the way, I saw Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering. This was back when I was in high school. I was so interested in this field that I found out it was a mix of the three engineering types I figured out earlier and got informed that the learning curve of mechatronics was higher because of how broad the course was.
That was not enough to stop me from dreaming big. I locked into that dream, and every effort I have placed since then has been into shaping that dream, and today I am a 400-level student of Mechatronics Engineering and have built some skills in programming, most especially Arduino Programming. Aside from that, I am also learning about Cloud and DevOps engineering, which is another field I got interested in along the way. I hope to focus on this field and use my knowledge of Arduino programming to build projects in my free time, making it something like a side hobby.
