Christmas is near!
Today I'm going to share two of the coins I found for my 12 days of Christmas wish list as I need to catch up before it's Christmas and this week is already super busy as is. So let's get right to it!
2023 Tuvalu 5 oz Silver Colorized Phoenix & Birds (Antiquid)
The first gem I found for today is a 2023 Tuvalu 5 oz Silver colorized phoenix and birds antiqued coin. As you probably guessed by now, I'm quite a fan of coins with phoenixes and dragons. The phoenix I can explain a bit because after becoming homeless and losing almost everything I had about 8 years ago, it kind of feels like rising from the ashes like a phoenix when we built back up our lives. We left everything behind and left with what fit in our suitcases to start over in a new country. We had no friends around and very very limited funds for the first 5 months. Volunteering and determination to start over, as well as the love for each other helped us get through it.
It surely helps that a phoenix is beautiful and it's hard not to love, especially when a coin comes with such colourization as this one that I'm sharing today.
Being a 5 oz coin, it's a heavy item but even for a 5 oz it's still a very expensive item. I tried to find it on Numista but it's not there. Anyway this is the info I could find on the ebay auction:
Coin Highlights:
Contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver.
Limited mintage of only 488 coins!
Each coin is housed in a classic display case within an illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Obverse:
Depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her years of reign: 1952-2022, the weight and fineness, the 2023 year-date and the monetary denomination.
Reverse:
This coin portrays a multi-colored Chinese phoenix in flight. It is surrounded be a collage of other birds among plants, flowers and clouds, with several in color.
Just 488 coins are minted of this one, wow, so rare. I can appreciate this antiqued style with colorization a lot, the coin deserves this if you ask me. It comes in a box which is almost as nice as the coin (almost! lol)
I would probably admire this coin quite often if it would ever land in my collection.
2019 1 oz Silver Long-Whiskered Dragon Dollar
The second coin I'm sharing today I found on Numista and is a Chinese one. It's a souvenir medal, coin reproduction it says in the characteristics. I don't even remember what got me to the point of finding this coin because I looked at so many but it must have been the dragon!
5000 coins have been minted of this one and with 1 ounce of silver it's a very affordable coin as well, I saw it for less than 50 bucks so that's fine.
Obverse
New dragon style with long moustaches and the designation "ONE DOLLAR" in English characters
Caption: ONE DOLLAR
Reverse
Four Manchu characters above the circle. Floral designs on the sides and the date "3rd year of Hsuen Tung" underneath. In the center are four characters that read "Silver Coin of the Great Qing Dynasty."
Singing
Plain Laser-Engraved Date Edge, 1 oz, .999 Fine, Silver
I like this one so much and because it's affordable, it might end up in my collection in the near future. That is if I don't find another one first, lol.
So those were my two picks for day 4 and 5. I shall be back tomorrow or the day after to present two more items on my, already fast growing, silver wish list.
