ποΈ HEALING ON ONRUST ISLAND ποΈ From Prayer, Sea Breeze, to Laughter
Hellooo travel lovers...
Come back with me, Tina! π Sometimes life is like a laptop browser: you have so many tabs open, but you don't know which one to close first, right? Ha ha ha. Well, last week a gang of Jakarta backpackers and I agreed to press the refresh button together. The goal? Onrust Island, baby!
SMALL DRAMA BEFORE DEPARTING (So It's Not Lonely)
We agreed to meet at Muara Kamal at 6 am, because the journey was quite long. I personally leave at dawn, around 4.30, to relax. Eh, a little drama happened - my friend who promised to meet at 4.30 only left at 5! π
Me: "Bro, we made an appointment at 4.30 you know."
He: βHeheβ¦ I just realized.β
Wow, the group almost left behind. Luckily I still had time, even though I was nervous about riding a free roller coaster.
A COOL MOMENT THAT IS IRREPLACEABLE
As soon as we arrived at Onrust Island, the air was immediately different! The gentle sea breeze, quiet atmosphere, plus old Dutch buildings make me mellow. I just walked to the old cemetery area, stopped at several gravestones, and prayed for those who once lived here. It feels... really cool. It's like being reminded that life is short, so don't forget to be grateful and stop overthinking the small things, ok?!
BEACH + TREES = MY SAFE ZONE
After that I walked to the beach. Sit for a while on the pier, just want to listen to the waves breaking gently. "When was the last time I sat like this without checking my cellphone?" I don't remember myself. Then I continued into the rather dense trees, took a deep breath, and... the smell of the sea mixed with the scent of wet leaves, really made me relax inside and out.
THERE'S NO MEDICINE!
Backpacker-style healing isn't complete without candid photosβafter all, the timer is 10 seconds. Hahaha! Some almost slipped, some got lost for a moment, but we were all laughing the whole way. It was hilarious, because behind all the laughter was a sense of peace I rarely find in super-busy Jakarta.
RETURNING WITH A LIGHT MIND
When we left in the afternoon, we went back to Jakarta, our bodies were already a bit burnt, but our hearts? It feels really light, like it's just been reset. It turns out, healing doesn't have to go far or cost a lot of money. Sometimes you just need to see the sea, feel the breeze, pray for a while, and laugh with friends until your stomach hurts, hahaha. And honestly, I think I'll be coming back here... often! π
