Hello, travelers.
The clear and blue sky, fresh air, cold temperatures, and the sea of clouds that never fail to captivate everyone. The charm of Mount Prau always makes climbers want to come back, including me.
This is my second trip to Prau. This trip I did before the pandemic, so I just managed to collect the photo files on my computer.
I departed from Pekalongan to Wonosobo with ten members including myself.
We chose to ride a motorbike to get there quickly. seven of our members are from Pekalongan and the other three are from Tangerang. Actually I didn't make any plans to join the group. Then, in the morning I just woke up. While sitting on the porch in front of my house, I saw my
neighbor, Putra, he was seen packing things and putting them in a carrier bag. Half conscious, I ran to Putra and asked him where he was going. There Putra was not alone, there were already nine members sitting and packing as well. Then, Putra said he would go to Mount Prau in Wonosobo. I immediately said I would join their group. Luckily they agreed. I rushed home and gathered all my climbing needs.
Actually, I'm still not completely healthy. Two days ago I caught a fever and was still a bit weak. But, because Prau is not a high mountain, so I feel like I can still do it. Besides, I will feel better if I smell the forest, meet fresh air and clear skies.
After all the preparations were completed after re-checking, we finally started driving towards Wonosobo. Yeeaaa!
It's July. The sky was very clear along the way. No drizzle or overcast. I really like the weather like this when going up the mountain.
At 01.00 pm, our group arrived at the Patak Banteng basecamp in the Patak Banteng Village. I always use this route because it is the route with the best views and the shortest travel time.
After arriving at basecamp, registering, and taking care of other administration, we gathered and unpacked our bags again. This aims to re-check important needs during the ascent so that nothing is missing or left behind.
We have delegated Putra as the leader in the group this time. Apart from being Putra who understands Prau's field conditions the most, he also brings the most members. In this group, only Putra and I had climbed, the other eight members. Prau was the first mountain they had climbed.
As usual, before starting our hiking trip, we held a short briefing. Usually what we do is remind each other to be careful, take care of each other, and don't forget to pray.
The journey begins, we get to know each other and throw jokes at each other so that the trip doesn't feel tiring. we agreed to wait for each other if any member wanted to take a break.
MY AMS (ACUTE MOUNTAIN SICKNESS)
Thirty minutes from Basecamp, we arrived at Shelter one. That is, the field has started to climb. I suddenly felt very sick to my stomach and my vision started to blur. this has never happened to me during the climb. I felt all my joints go weak and I felt my breath was very heavy. I immediately took the initiative to sit down and asked two of my friends to accompany me.
I sat down and drank enough mineral water. I just realized, this must be called altitude sickness or AMS (Acute mountain Sickness) I've heard that AMS is very dangerous and can cause hypothermia if not treated properly.
I started reading my own body, started compromising with myself. I started to think carefully whether I will continue this investigation or not?
For the ten minutes or so we sat, finally my nausea was unbearable and I threw up all my stomach contents in the peanut field by the side of the track. I let the contents of my stomach completely empty and I immediately drank mineral water so that my body was not dehydrated.
Ten minutes after that, I felt my blood circulation return to normal, my body temperature returned to normal, and my heart rate returned to its normal speed.
My vision began to clear, my energy began to recharge, and I felt ready to continue the journey this time.
My two friends who accompanied me made sure I wasn't out of breath and agreed to continue the journey.
The other members were still a few meters behind me.
the next trip felt easier and I also felt better. It's just that I learned an important lesson after that incident. I wouldn't take a mountain for granted just because I don't think it's very tall.
This is also very important for anyone who travels climbing, physical health must be the number one priority, then we will develop strategies to balance our mental.
Never go on a hike if you feel your body is not too healthy, because we never know what we will face in the forest. Also, what kind of weather we will receive during the climb.
Just before sunset, we all arrived at the Prau peak campground. We were greeted by a light storm and had difficulty setting up a tent and turning on the stove to boil water. It was very cold and the sky was getting dark. We pitched the tent in the dark as we waited for the storm to pass.
That night, we were a little pessimistic that tomorrow morning the sky would be clear. We will be sad if we wake up in the morning and it turns out to be thick
but,
Taraa...!
The sky is very clear and the roll of the sea of clouds is very beautiful! Thank God, thank you universe!
thanks, hives for reading.
