There are humans who are very good at expressing themselves. There are also are humans types who don't even know how to express themselves. There are many reasons why humans cannot express themselves. Maybe they's shy or maybe they's just not used to telling stories in front of other people or in public.
I fall into the second category. Actually I envy my father who is good at public speaking. My father also doesn't have stage fright and looks very pleasant when giving public speeches.
Far different from me who is easily nervous. My hands even shake violently while standing on a stage. So one day when I was in the fifth grade of elementary school, my class teacher delegated me to be the master of ceremonies for a farewell musical. It's my first time!
The audience said I performed it very well. Although I'm not sure they're honest. Because actually I was really nervous when I went on stage.
So, this weekend's engagement contest made me think about the process of learning to speak in public.
As an adult and I worked in a city, I met a community that made me bolder to appear in public. a theater community called Dapoer Sastra Tjisaoek taught me to play monologues.
When I heard the word monologue, I immediately remembered a comedian whom I often saw on television. Rowan Atkinson from mr. beans. I really like him and I want to learn how to be a monologue?
A leader of my community named Abah Yoyok, he directed that I practice often; reading texts, breathing so that my pvoice is strong and full of power, also learns gestures to maximize the characters that I will use later. My other friend's name is Nana. Nana is the man in charge of directing when I practice. Apart from being a director, he also served as a drafter.
I submitted my own script what I used to show, then Nana would give me an idea of the concept, sometimes we agreed with each other, sometimes we didn't. However, Nana is a style director who wants to hear ideas from other people. We will talk comfortably about the concept.
because performing arts also require music as a background, we have a musical group to accompany us to play the theater. With all of their support, I can finally enjoy what it's like to be a performer.
I feel proud of myself and the people closest to me who are my big support system. I also feel that the performing arts that I perform are also good for relieving stress.
When I started to learn to regulate my breathing method, indirectly I was also learning to regulate and control my emotions.
One more point that makes me excited about the process of learning to present a performance art is when we learn to get into the characters we will use. Oftentimes, the characters in a performing arts are far different from ours in everyday life. Pleasant things like this make us more sensitive about other people. Makes us have to open our eyes wide and learn from many small and big things to get the spirit of the character we will play.
However, the most enjoyable part of a series of processes in the performing arts is when the work that we show can make the audience satisfied, happy, feel educated, and gain new knowledge even if a little.
From the performing arts of theater, I also get a lot of good friends.
Thank you, Hive for reading my work!
Good luck to us for this contest!
