🇩🇪 Am 04. April 1970 in Oslo geboren, nimmt Rekekka Bakken in Norwegen, wo gute Jazz-Interpretinnen wie Pilze aus dem Boden zu sprießen scheinen, eine Art Sonderstellung ein. Denn, ganz im Gegensatz zu ihren eher bodenständigen Kolleginnen, startete sie 1994 ihr musikalische Findungstour über New York nach Wien und von dort nicht zurück nach Norwegen, sondern nach Schweden.
Mit "The Art Of How To Fall" gab Rebekka Bakken 2003 ein fulminantes Album-Debüt. Es folgten ein klasse Cover-Album mit Liedern von Tom Waits, sowie vier Alben mit fast ausschließlich eigenen Kompositionen.

Für den Einstieg in den Jazz stand ihr niemand Geringeres zur Seite als Wolfgang Muthspiel, der österreichische Weltklasse-Gitarrist. Nach der Zusammenarbeit mit Julia Hülsmann folgte dann "The Art Of How To Fall".
"Sich fallen zu lassen, nicht an etwas festzuhalten, nicht zu kontrollieren" sei eine große, schöne Kunst, erklärte Rebekka Bakken damals den tieferen Sinn des Albumtitels.

Auf "Is That You?" vertieft sie 2005 die Stimmungen und Schwingungen von "The Art Of How To Fall", mit denen sie die Kritiker begeistert und ihr Publikum in Verzückung versetzt hatte. Dabei zeigt sie in den elf neuen Stücken ihre zunehmende Reife als Sängerin und ihre Fähigkeiten als Komponistin und Arrangeurin. Zur Seite steht ihr diesmal eine skandinavische Band mit Trompeter Nils Petter Molvær und Saxophonist Bendik Hofseth als Gastsolisten.

Eine neue Dimension gewinnt ihre Musik 2007 auf "I Keep My Cool" durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Streichern der Wiener Philharmoniker und Wiener Symphoniker. In den Songs offenbart sich Rebekka Bakken erneut als Poetin, die oftmals mit nur wenigen, kleinen und zarten Schritten große Wirkung erzielen und Geschichten erzählen kann.

2009 liefert sie für "Morning Hours" ihren vielleicht schönsten Song: "Powder Room Collapse".
Mit dem Album **“Septembe bringt sie 2011 ein Album auf den Markt, das ganz stark von Folk und Country beeinflusst ist.

Nach fünf Alben mit fast durchweg selbst geschriebenen Songs überrascht Bakken 2014 mit "Little Drop Of Poison". Auf Einladung des Arrangeurs Jörg Achim Keller interpretiert sie, begleitet von der Bigband des Hessischen Rundfunks, Songs aus der Feder des Beat- und Blues-Barden Tom Waits.
Mit “Things You Leave Behind” bringt Rebekka Bakken jetzt ein Album in die Läden, mit dem sie wieder fest mit beiden Beinen im Jazz verweilt.

🇬🇧 Born on 04 April 1970 in Oslo, Norway, Rekekka Bakken occupies a kind of special position in Norway, where good jazz interpreters seem to sprout like mushrooms from the ground. In contrast to her rather down-to-earth colleagues, she started her musical discovery tour in 1994 via New York to Vienna and from there not back to Norway, but to Sweden.
With "The Art Of How To Fall" Rebekka Bakken made a brilliant album debut in 2003. This was followed by a great cover album with songs by Tom Waits, as well as four albums with almost exclusively his own compositions.

For her entry into jazz she was supported by none else than Wolfgang Muthspiel, the Austrian guitarist of world class. After the collaboration with Julia Hülsmann followed "The Art Of How To Fall".
"To let oneself fall, not to hold on to something, not to control" was a great, beautiful art, Rebekka Bakken explained the deeper meaning of the album title at that time.

In 2005, with " Is That You?", she deepens the moods and vibrations of "The Art Of How To Fall", with which she inspired critics and enchanted her audience. In the eleven new songs she shows her increasing maturity as a singer and her abilities as a composer and arranger. This time she is accompanied by a Scandinavian band with trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær and saxophonist Bendik Hofseth as guest soloists.

In 2007, her music on "I Keep My Cool" took on a new dimension through her collaboration with the strings of the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In the songs Rebekka Bakken reveals herself once again as a poet who can often achieve great impact and tell stories with just a few small and delicate steps.

For "Morning Hours" in 2009 she delivers perhaps her most beautiful song: "Powder Room Collapse".
With the album "September" in 2011, she is releasing an album that is strongly influenced by folk and country music.
