We all have to work hard, but we also have to work smart. Most people understand the importance of working hard, but many don't understand that working smart is even more important.
The difference between the two is that we must focus less on the activity itself and more on the result. An example would be if someone was trying to write a paper for class and didn't get an A+ grade because they spent too much time checking their grammar instead of actually writing.
You've Got To Work Hard
If you want to be successful, then you've got to keep your mind on the prize: the result. That means focusing on what's important, not how much or how perfectly it gets done.It's easy for people who aren't working hard and smartly (or who aren't even trying) to make excuses for why they haven't achieved their goals yet; after all, there are always reasons why things don't go according to plan—and those little excuses can lead us down paths that aren't necessarily helpful in achieving our goals. But if we take those same steps backwards into laziness and mediocrity instead of going forward toward success then what happens? Nothing good!
Social media and the internet in general, has unlocked ways of working smart but on the flip side it has over glorified working smart to the detriment of working hard. Now, we look down on working hard, calling it all kinds of names (unhealthy being top of the list). What we tend to miss is that working hard is like the ferment to the yoghurt. Without it (working hard), the yoghurt (success in this case) simply cannot exist.
One of the digital mentors of mine (Patrick Bet David) said that if you’re not working hard, then you’re simply winging it and relying on luck. We all know how the plot ends with that.
Working Smart Is Important
Working smart is about doing things better, faster and more efficiently. It's about being more productive, so you can get your work done before the competition. It’s also about being more effective at what you do.In other words, working smart means that you are making good decisions with your time by spending it wisely and efficiently – not just in terms of how much money goes into creating something like an app but also in terms of how much time goes into creating something like an app (i.e., hours vs minutes).
Working smart gives you an edge over the competition and (to a certain extent) speeds up your journey. For example, instead of getting 10 clients per month like the average Mark, you get 50 clients per month. This even becomes handier when you’re competing in a large market i.e. globally. Something that is very common these days.
Focus More On The Result Than The Activity Itself
One of the most common mistakes people make when trying to get ahead in life is focusing on the activity itself. They think that if they are doing something hard and long enough, then they'll eventually be successful at it. This is a very dangerous mindset because it leads to a lot of wasted time, effort and energy spent on activities that don't actually lead anywhere at all. The goal should always be your end result; not just any old activity you plan on doing in order to get there!For example: If my goal is "get rich", then my focus should be on how much money I will have when I reach success rather than thinking about how many hours per day or weeks per year I'll have to put into my business plan before reaching profitability or even profitability itself (the latter will depend on a lot of factors making it fluctuate quite a bit).
Conclusion
We all know that working smart is really important in finding the inflection point of success, but it can also be quite challenging. Only working hard wouldn’t cut it in this age because a lot of things have changed. We need to find the right balance between hard work and smart work in order to get the most out things.However, there are some people who just don’t know how to manage their time properly-they neither work hard or smart-so they end up wasting too much time on useless things like social media or watching TV instead of focusing on their goals. Do not be that person!
