Right. I have done my tallies and have found the following:
At the start of 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,000, Games-Workshop had radically changed the way that unit Datasheets operated. There were statistics in the statline of a model and then weapons and armor would modify it.
One of the biggest changes made was to change the datasheet format and I feel that this format will stay for the future editions in the next decade or more.
All the weapon abilities and profiles were put into another section under weapons and the bases statline controlled movement, objective control and the "defensive stats" as I like the call them. Those stats that contributed towards durability.
This all meant that Games-Workshop needed to re-do every single Datasheet in the game! They redid all the factions to have Army Rules, all 27 of them. Each of those Armies were released with 1 Detachment each, 27 of them. And then, in total - 910 Datasheets were launched with the game.
All this, including the main rules were made available for free as well as a new app launched to show all the rules and the datasheets, together with an army builder.
Since then.... more than 680 days, Games Workshop has been releasing Codexes. This would remove some of the Datasheets and add new ones and generally give each Army getting a Codex a range of Detachments to choose to play. Each Detachment would then have some sort of theme that would allow the army to be played in a specific way.
Christmas 2024, each of the 27 Factions received a bonus Detachment. Merry Grotmas.
Right... I may have cross-contaminated a small amount of Codex Datasheets but in total, I have the following stats so far.
I reviewed 356 Datasheets. Ignoring a handful of Codex Datasheets this means I have reviewed around 39% of the Indexes since launch.
There are 6 Armies left that are still in Index form, they account for 149 Datasheets, plus 6 Army Rules and now 12 Detachments each.
These Detachments account for around 16.3% of the total Indexes at Launch.
Together, the Indexes outstanding and the Indexes reviewed comes to a total of roughly 55.4% and that is all I can do about that. I COULD go and look for the released Indexes and review them, but they are not current.
I have what I have.
In the recent year I have been tackling rule sets BEFORE they get replaced. My intention is to continue this and to get up to date as much as possible.
Thus I will complete the Indexes outstanding first. I have managed a massive feat in reviewing all the Death Guard, Thousand Sons, World Eaters and Space Wolves before their launch. I did 100% of the Astra Militarum and around 93% of the Aeldari before THEIR launches. They were the biggest Indexes in the game.
So I am starting to take traction here.
So I have 6 factions, 149 datasheets, minus the 24 that I did while I still did this by rolling for it randomly... and have 125 datasheets to do. Plus Army Rules and Detachments making 143 Reviews in total.
My DG/TS/WE/SW challenges had be doing reviews at 2 per day. I don't feel this is sustainable, though it got me closer to being up to date.
I am going to go on a 1.5x ration to be more moderate. This gives me around 96 days to review that remains of the Codexes. If I start tomorrow... this means around the 21st of July 2025 I will be done with the remaining Indexes.
After that I need to launch straight into Reviewing the Codex Datasheets as they had been launched in 10th Edition. A Codex is a book released for that army. They replace the Index, change the rules, add and remove units.
Hopefully when I get to that, I will start running ahead of the curve. At the 21st of July, they should only have launched the DG/WE/TS/SW Codexes. Based on seeing how long it takes to do the rest. Beyond this is the Imperial Knights, Chaos Knights, Black Templars and Grey Knights.
By the most optimistic expectations, they will release those current 4 and the other 4 by the end of the year. Then there is another 2 that will only be released early next year at best and mid year next year in a more moderate estimation.
This will give me time to catch up with the new 900-odd datasheets from the Codexes as well as stating to analyze what is new.
One day, I might be all caught up and can then focus on only reviewing what is brand new as it is released. That would be amazing!
So... with me luck! To the 21st July to get up to date with all of the Indexes! (Starting tomorrow, but I may start tonight!)
