If you haven't heard of Ludum Dare, it is a 48 or 72 hour game jam.
It is a game making competition where you get either 48 hours or 72 hours to make a game based on a theme announced at the start.
This happens 3 times a year and the next Ludum Dare is the weekend of August 10th at 6:00 PM EDT.
I have participated in ever Ludum Dare since the summer of 2014, so I am pumped to participate again.
There are two competitions, the Compo and the Jam.
Both competitions are very similar. You make a game in an allotted time based on a theme released at the beginning and submit it on the website before the deadline. You then get to rate others' games and everyone else will rate your game. What is really awesome about Ludum Dare is how the rating system works. When you rate other people's games, you gain "coolness" and go higher on the list of games in the front page, when others rate your game, your game will go back down. This makes you get as many ratings and plays as you give, making sure that everyone's game get's rated.
The 48 hour competition must be done solo, and all assets must be made in the 48 hours. You must also share your source code.
In the 72 hour Jam, it is much more relaxed. You can have as many people on your team as you want, and if you want, you can use graphics or music made before the start, you will just have to opt out of getting ratings in those categories when you submit.
If you are interested in making games, I would suggest you try it out if you haven't, it's a great competition.
