Progressivism is just a newer name given to the same ideology from which Communism and Socialism arose. Progressivism started to take hold in America circa 1920-1930. It promotes the idea of a large, centralized government which assumes responsibility for feeding, housing and caring for people in exchange for the wealth they generate via labor.
The bigger goverment gets normally the more incompetent it becomes.
