Drama...
Some users are panicking over the "last" (we all know there are many more to come) Steemit controversy.
I would like to outline what I think about it, and why I'm not particularly worried.
Steemit have their own goals. We don't know what they are. Ned said they are a blockchain development company in one of his streams. I don't know what that means. They may be working on a private blockchain. They may be working on SMTs 5.9. they could be cashing out their coins before going bankrupt. WE SIMPLY DON'T KNOW.
But...
But what we do know, is that we have a vibrant community of crypto enthusiasts, with a wide range of talents, and a variying amount of free time. It's an enormous asset. It's something most coins listed on CMC don't have.
We just have a sustainability problem. Steem's infrastructure costs too much to maintain.
If Steemit goes under, how many Steem Apps could continue to run without bleeding money?
The Apps
@burak & @hightouch's fundition?
@heimindanger's dtube ?
@arcange's SteemSQL & SteemitBoard?
@crypto.talk's Partiko?
@prc's Dsound?
@hr1's Steeve App?
@ntopaz? by who ever runs it
@elear's utopian?
We need to be prepared for the worst. Which is, no more full nodes from Steemit Inc.
Less RAM Moe Apps
And minimising RAM usage is how we do that. If a typical Steem user can run a full node from their gaming PC, we become self-sufficient, and then we can focus on building a robust software suit for anyone who wants to use Steem. A long lineup of Steem Apps, if you will.
But unless every HODLING dev will pour their resources into cost reduction, and Steemit indeed kicks the bucket, there won't be a point to adding new features to the aformentioned Steem Apps.
No one will be able to use them, because there won't be a blockchain node to pull data from.
Those tagged and anyone else with sufficient programming skills, am I missing something?
Or reducing RAM on full nodes is Steem's ecosystem top priority for survival at the moment?
