Greetings, friends!
Let's talk about an idea. Something I just started doing and I think there's something done fine but of course, your feedback would be valuable. Necessary, even. I hope this becomes a movement.
Connecting the dots
Dot A
There were a few things that I wanted (And I still want some of them) as functionalities around here on the Steem blockchain but it dawned on me that there were cross-platform ways to have some of them working for me. Even before they would be developed on Steem.
Organizing content. Making collections of things I wanted to find later. If not turn them into evergreen content in terms of rewards, at least make them evergreen in terms of availability. Easy and neat ways. And it happened with a random button appearing over an image I liked. My Pinterest "Save" button.
And there it was — Why not start a collection on Pinterest of what I want to find later on Steem? "Until there's a way to do it on Steem, in-platform instead of cross-platform," I thought at first.
My "Artists on Steem" Collection on Pinterest
Dot B
I found this post (a continuation of a talk long talked, really) about promoting Steem among the users of other platforms, attracting de-platformed creators, etc., started by @theycallmedan — Promo-Steem Revival
. There's a man who works for the cause and for the benefit of all here all the time. But there was a thing he said in a reply to my comment, that made something click:
We should team up!
And he's said that again and again, and we should all know it by now. But the how of it is sometimes elusive. An old thought with a new meaning.
Connecting Dot A to Dot B
I had a new context and a way to act. And here it is. It doesn't matter that it was not in any original plan. Well, now it is.
How you can all help
This one is very simple, really. Just making a habit of collecting things that you like — posts or fragments of posts. If you use Pinterest, you know how easy you can send images with the link to their source to a specified folder. Just name it something about content on Steem and make it grow naturally.
I've seen messages times and times again about other people liking my pins. Well, some of them will be from that folder of mine, eventually. Some of the viewers will open the source. It's shown there. On hovering over the image.
Maybe none of my followers will see that soon, but Pinterest allows non-followers to see my content based on...content. And maybe they won't see mine soon, but they might see yours. The more we are, the merrier.
It's far from the direct approach, I know, but it is:
Unobtrusive;
Fast and easy to do;
Very useful to yourselves — you get an easily accessible collection of your favorite articles;
(I am waiting for some way to do it on the blockchain as well. Any UI close to that?)
In line with how Pinterest actually works. Or the social part of social networks, for that matter;
A way to tap into one more community...
Let me know your thoughts about all that!
What can be done better than my example? What could be a problem? How can we use tags on Pinterest? What else?
Once more, we should do this as a community.
Yours,
Manol
