As many of you know, I sowed a lot of seeds, over the last two months. 116 Tomato, half that in pepper plants, a bunch of cumber, squash and hers too! And the main reason why so many, is not tog et that many plants, but to realize, germination is not perfect.
Think about it, one single tomato has dozens of seeds, times dozens of tomato per plant. If every seed germinated when a tomato falls to the ground, within a few years, Earth would be overun with tomato plants. Same for pepper, or cucumber, or whatever plant. Not every seed comes to fruition.Above: Last Column is Germination Rates.

Above: 3 Seedling Sweetie Tomato in one seed cell. For my tomato, I often pout two seeds per cell, and sometimes, it slips and I end up with 3 seeds.
Below: When multiple seedlings germinate, if I can, I will transplant to an empty cell, as I did for the Black Tula, Yellow Pear, and White Cherry Tomato.

About 4 or 5 weeks after seeds are sown, I can guestimate fairly well, how many of each variety we will get to transplant outside. So, at that point, I may sow another round of seed for a particular variety depending on how the family likes that type, or, whether I need a lot for jarring, canning, pickling, or making sauces.
Planning for the harvest, even as early as seed sowing is important, and I do plan. If there's one thing people know about me, it's that I am a planner! Right, @dreemsteem ?...Well, when it comes to the garden, anyway!
