The Bible tells us how David advised Solomon, after having been anointed as King of Israel in place of his father David. And David advised his son with the intention that his reign would be prosperous and lasting. Because the goal of every monarchy is to establish peace, and peace is the greatest good that a ruler must maintain. And peace needs, first of all, wisdom and good advice.
And this is extremely important, because this is what distinguishes the tyrant from the King, a tyrant does not need advice, because a tyrant only follows his own whims; when the wise rule, the wise is king, but when the fool rules, that fool becomes a tyrant. Let us remember that when we speak of a kingdom, the one who governs does so in representation of the highest, because the opposite is the government of hard-hearted men.
David directed some last words to his son so that he would become wiser, but understanding a truth, the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, stability), the sacred scriptures teach us, is the source of all wisdom. And a devout man, as David explained to Solomon, is always attentive to what the Law teaches. The love of God and the law is the source of all blessings for man. God blesses the upright and punishes the sinners: "For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction" Psalm 1:6.
Such were the words of David, the servant of the Lord, to Solomon, after his coronation:
"So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: ´If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.´" 1 Kings 2:2-4
