Social Seduction!
Society needs to understand that social media attempts to replicate reality. As a result platforms such as Facebook and Instagram need to manipulate your psychology, so that you spend as much of your time online.
How does social media seduce you?
Facebook, for example, incorporates features such as 'Likes' and 'Comments', which creates a false sense that the user has a voice (power).
In reality, these features deceive you into thinking that your time on Facebook is valued. Therefore, each user spends more hours on Facebook each day, because it offers you instant gratification.
Social Power!
The whole world is reported to be online by 2020 according to Eric Schmidt, Google Chairman. This means that more people will be pressured to use social media, because everyone will be online.
Also, smartphones are literally in everyone's possession, so it creates even more of an incentive to use apps such as Snapchat and Twitter. And as we move into a world of digital money (i.e. Bitcoin), owning a smartphone is a necessity in 2017.
