So which is more important? Let us first look at a clear definition of each of these two concepts.
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is explained as :
The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. "emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success"
IQ or your intelligent quotient is explained as:
an assessment of your intelligence derived from standardized tests that measure problem solving abilities, spatial imagery, memory, general knowledge, and other factors.
In short, your IQ result states whether you are clever, or not and your EQ is all about your emotional state of mind.
The importance is that you have the opportunity to improve both your IQ and your EQ !
We often want to improve ourselves. Some outer force or inner drive is constantly encouraging us or pushing us to be a better person than we currently are.
So if someone else believes that we can be better, what exactly is stopping us from being the best we can? Nobody wants to be a loser. Other times we are jealous of others and this jealousy forces us to make some improvements to change our outlook on life.
But how can we improve ourselves successfully?
Step 1- Learn and improve skills
No one knows everything. Although some people think they do. An old Chinese proverb says: “He who asks a question, is a fool for five minutes: he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever”. We should constantly try to improve our performance. We are never too old to learn, and while everyone is concentrating here on Steemit, I find this an excellent platform to broaden my general knowledge. Constant learning will help you improve yourself drastically.
Step 2- Manage priorities better
Too little time and too much to do. We are all busy in our lives. We CAN'T do everything in one day. We need to learn how to prioritize to finish the important things first. My suggestion is to make a list of all your priorities, and sticking to that list. Write down everything important that needs to be done in your day, and after completing those tasks you HAVE to do on a particular day, then you can do things that you WANT to do. Remember all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. You need time for yourself.
Step 3 - Become more positive
Building relationships with others, are a very important part of our lives. Here on Steemit you are building your community and constantly communicating with others through your posts. A positive attitude increases your EQ because you will feel better and you will overall be a happier person.

How do Emotional intelligence influences our lives?
General health – Emotional intelligence increases your ability to actually want to take care of your body and to manage stress. So start exercising more. Just walk around the block. That short little distance can be the start of a marathon.
Mental status– Emotional intelligence affects your attitude and outlook on life. Being positive can help resolve negative emotions and relieve anxiety and possibly avoid depression or mood swings.
Stronger Relationships – The better you understand and manage your emotions, the better you are able to communicate your feelings in a more constructive way. This would make you a better person and create better relationships.
Better Communication – It’s easier to give people what they want if we actually know WHAT they want.
Success – Focus on your goals and this might rub off on someone else. People tend to follow the examples of others, so be the best example you can be!
