I had been thinking of making this for more than a decade. The other day i put it effect. At first i was going to post the music alone but fate had it that the app audiocopy would not send such a large file. So my work around was to put it to film. The film is in homage to Thomas Pynchon’s masterpiece of fiction (metafiction) a book called Gravity’s Rainbow. The subject matter i present is parallel in its scope and depth but does not emulate the storyline of GR rather it portrays the dizzying wonderful confusion that reading the book produced in me as the reader. I was pleased with the synchronicity and phenomena. I sent it off to the Professor T. Pynchon, whom i believe taught a 20th century lit course incognito during my 1992 winter semester, as an homage of appreciation and love. The motif is of reality being stranger than any fiction. A theme Pynchon im sure was familiar with being a rocket scientist for Boeing engineering intercontinental ballistic missiles then choosing to drop out to join an underground all his own to write GR which reveals the horror of the military industrial complex support and staging of world war two. Still a very controversial subject matter but very factual in the evidence that corporations, political families, and the banks had been supporting both axis and allies and reaping massive profits from the misery and death of millions of human souls. Although GR is often a comical humorous book the underbelly of paranoia was actually very real for Thomas Pynchon. There was good reason for him to hide his identity from the world. They say he dressed in drag in order to purchase groceries as he was aware that being a former rocket scientist they were very much out to get him. The end result of GR that i came away with after several readings of GR and the GR companion (brilliantly fact checks much of the historical events in GR as being true) was one of sacrifice and love. Pynchon in his own way had saved the world and illuminated the darkest of shade. I cannot imagine this world without his influence.
