I'm a bit of a jigsaw puzzle fan, but rarely find the time or space to sit down and do one.
With us being in #stayathome mode over the Easter weekend I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to work on one over the four days. Only problem was Easter was only a week away and I did not have a jigsaw puzzle. No fear, I'd acquire one.
I soon discovered everyone else had had the same idea. Store after store were sold out. No 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, or if there were the designs were very limited. I'd envisioned one with a vibrant landscape scene, the image slowly emerging from the puzzle pieces to briefly transport us away from the monotony of our four walls. Or perhaps a busy bookstore scene with hidden treasures revealed on every shelf. Or a mystery puzzle that would keep me guessing the whole way through as to what the final image would be. What I found were Disney scenes and Harry Potter. Cool in their own right, but not quite what I was after.
I continued clicking, determined to find a decent puzzle in stock somewhere. At the point of giving up I stumbled upon a vintage underwater scene. That's kind of cool I thought and added it to my cart. Frustratingly in the 10 seconds between there and checkout it suddenly became unavailable. Argh! It was all too much. A long weekend of puzzle was not to be.
The site must have sensed it's potential lost sale, because it very helpfully began suggesting similar options to me that were still in stock. That's when I saw the mermaid.
Easter weekend has now been and gone and I'm around a third of the way through the mermaid puzzle. She's just the right level of challenging - not too easy to put together, but at the same time not mind-bendingly impossible. I'm enjoying chilling out with her, putting a few more pieces in place throughout the day.
The puzzle itself is great quality. The pieces feel solid, connect together smoothly, and have a lovely textured matte finish so they don't reflect the light. I would definitely buy this brand again. Perhaps I'll go back and try to hunt down an available copy of the vintage underwater scene.
I started with the edge pieces, standard puzzle strategy. No sorting of pieces though. I like to spread them out where I can see them all.
Further updates as I get her finished.
Until next time,
@Sammie
