I just received a very nice reply from @xrayman to my previous story on anger management.
As I was responding, I was reminded of something important: the need to celebrate our victories.
Here, I’m talking about the victories over ourselves.
I don’t really like the word battle, because in the path of personal development, I believe it's less about fighting and more about understanding — through patient, consistent observation.
Still, there are moments of intense emotional stimulation that do feel like battles.
And when I manage not to give in to a wave of anger, or resist a powerful impulse, celebrating feels like the right thing to do.
So today, I want to invite you to celebrate even your smallest victories.
Why?
Because, first of all, it feels good!
But also because there are real, long-term virtues to celebrating personal wins. For example:
🧠 When I manage not to get carried away by excitement — like when my assets rise sharply in value and I don’t sell because my plan is to build savings — that’s a victory.
And when I celebrate that victory, I'm doing several good things at once:
I associate good feelings with self-discipline
I take a moment to pause and observe, which builds self-awareness
I realise the progress I've made compared to earlier versions of myself, when I might have just chased short-term gratification
All of this together creates a dynamic we can call a virtuous circle.
Because there’s a big difference between doing something well, and doing it well and acknowledging it.
When we acknowledge our wins, we organise them in the “good memory” shelf of the mind.
Later, in harder moments, we can come back to that shelf — a mental resource to help us stay on track.
Sometimes, that’s exactly the difference between giving in (to anger, to fear, to impulse... or selling the asset 😉) or staying the course.
The more you stock up on these moments, the more power you’ll have to create more of them.
That’s the magic of the virtuous circle!
And by the way — this is also a very effective way to fight off imposter syndrome, no matter your level.
So today, I invite you to celebrate something good you did.
And if you’re just starting out, begin with things you consider “normal” — those count too.
