This is Ivan. While his name is a common one, his skills are not. Ivan is a pipe maker. Yes, a real craftsman. Probably one of the hand-full left in Bulgaria. His pipes are unique, fully hand-made, they have a soul. He is a modest yet very talented person. I enjoyed every minute I spent talking to him. Suddenly it appeared we have close common friends as well. True, Bulgaria is so small :)
Let me tell you now why this photo is different.
This is an unorthodox portrait in terms of focal length. I used a wide angle lens which forces me to come very close to my subject in order to "fill" the frame. I took this portrait while my lens was about 30 cm from his face, virtually at the physical limit of it, as the Minimal Focus Distance of this lens is about 28 cm or about 11 inches. I believe getting so close to the person adds some character to the photo, a feeling that can't be explained. Do you see it? :)
Oh, by the way on this photo he is testing a newly created pipe.
