There's been a lot of virtue signalling going round after this clip (as found on tiktok) was 'aired' and showed Ramsay selecting a Lamb to kill for his meal, but not before mocking it and saying that he was going to eat it, and have it for dinner.
I have some personal views about it and I genuinely think the internet is really dumb for criticizing him.
For those that don't know, Ramsay was known for swearing a lot, particularly using the 'f*ck' word very often.
He made a whole show based around this, and as much as it was entertaining (he used the F word all the time as expected), it was also about the other three important pillars all beginning with the letter F : "food", "family", and "farming".
The show, much like Clarkson's Farm, was about homesteading, teaching his children to farm and raise animals for self sustenance and eventually slaughtering them to eat.
The hard point that the internet seems to miss is that the entire point was to be realistic about where our food actually comes from.
This is where my qualms lie with the response from the internet.
Ramsay has not changed his behaviour for literally his entire cooking career. This is literally what he does for a living, and always has done. Nobody seemed to care about it before, but suddenly they do now.
Of course, we have cultivated a culture of animal love and humane killing. Nobody is suggesting that this isn't what Ramsay believes in too. But we have to acknowledge that this is how the food chain works.
We live in a circle of life depending on eating meat (most of us anyway)
Killing an animal might not be a pretty thing to do, and to be honest, I would find it difficult to do it myself, but pretending that that is not what is happening when meat turns up on our table is ignorant. Pretending that killing animals for food doesn't happen is the stupid thing here, not what Ramsay is parading.
That said, I am of course grateful that I don't have to do this and there are professionals who will handle it but I am never ignorant about what is going on here. I will happily do it myself if I have to.
If you eat meat, I think you could benefit from a reality wake up call.
