This post is intended for my fellow minnows and plankton and while the information in it isn’t new, it might come in handy. The message I’m trying to bring across is either obvious to the whales and dolphins or not necessary to their survival in this Steem ocean. It starts with this question: Do you believe in the long-term viability of Steem?
It’s important to note the distinction between Steem, the cryptocurrency and Steemit, the platform here. You can be sure about one and not the other. In this case, I want to know if you think Steem will be around for years to come and will eventually increase in value significantly as further developments (like SMTs) are introduced.
It’s very easy to say yes with your words but it looks like we’re headed to a point where you can clearly show what you believe with your actions. If you believe that Steem is tanking and will never recover then every moment that you hold onto your Steem represents a loss in value that you will not get back. In that case, the logical choice would be to spend your time on something more profitable than posting, power down completely and buy fiat or some other coin with better future prospects.
If, on the other hand, you believe that Steem will one day be worth much much more than it is now, then this decline in prices might represent one of the last opportunities for you to significantly increase your SP (and consequently the weight of your upvote) without a major investment out of pocket. Basically, this is your moment to level up.
Now, if you’ve been living off of Steem until recently, these prices are probably devastating to you and you may need to use your time on activities that are more immediately profitable. That’s life and nobody has the right to judge you for that. You can’t pay the rent now with future profits. But if you have the freedom to post and interact more and your account could do with some extra power, your actions (or inaction) give the answer to my question.
The good thing is, Steem isn’t a cult. You don’t have to believe that it’ll moon. And there are Steemians who say they’re just here for the community. For all I know, you’re already a multi-bajillionaire and you’re just here because you’re bored. That’s cool too. But if you’re even mildly interested in money, answer my question for yourself and then make sure your actions line up with your beliefs.
PS. I am not a crypto guru. I mostly just write poetry and microfiction so please don’t blame me if something I say somehow inspires you to epic financial ruin ☮️.
