Student Creativity Scientific Week (PIKM) is an event for students of the Communication Studies Program at Malikussaleh University to test skills in various fields. Various competitions are held for seven days or more and are always closed with Malam Puncak or in the past it was called Malam Komunikasi (Communication Night).
In a number of previous helatan events, several fields of competition were not only for students of the Unimal Communication Studies Program, but were open to all students from various tertiary institutions in Aceh, both public and private. The involvement of students from all over Aceh - such as in article and fiction writing competitions - increased the prestige of the competition. In addition, the moment was a place of friendship by students throughout Aceh.
Unfortunately, the competition is open for all Acehnese students, in the last few events only a paper competition is valid for students throughout Aceh. The rest of the race is increasingly exclusive. The scope of the competition is getting narrower because it is only open to students of the Communication Studies Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Malikussaleh.
As a result, the several of participants diminished, following the quality of the race because of the increasingly low level of competition. Echoes of the race was increasingly limited because it only resounded in the class of study programs. Instead of echoing up to the national level, not even leaving the study program.
However, this change is understandable if students are faced with a classic problem, namely the lack of a budget. Because it has become a classic obstacle, students should be able to prepare from the beginning. Do not rely on budget sources only from the campus which is indeed very limited. Students who are on the committee, with the support of study programs and faculties, can expand to look for budgets outside.
Such budgeting schemes have been carried out before. The name is also a creative event, students also have to be creative in holding scientific events with limited funds but have a wide impact on the university on a local and national scale.
In the Fifth PIKM that has taken place, various competitions are held such as speeches in English, stand-up comedy, dance, film, acoustics, even traditional competitions such as clogs and tug-of-war competitions. "Traditional sports competitions are held to recall traditional games, in addition to establishing intimacy among students," said the Head of the Competition Committee, Ade Pradana.
The peak night of various competitions which took place during the week took place at the Uteunkot ACC Building, Lhokseumawe, Sunday (6/10/2019) night. Various activities that carry the theme "Civilization of Human Communication" ended in the closing ceremony which was wrapped with a series of stage art and announcement of the winner.
The Chairperson of the Communication Science Study Program, Kamaruddin Hasan, expressed his appreciation to the committee and the Communicating Science Student Association (Himako) who had worked hard to hold an annual event at the Communication Science Study Program. "All the limitations, the Vth PIKM activity was successful," he said before the audience consisting of all the academics of Malikussaleh University.
The Chairman of Himako University of Malikussaleh, Muchsalmina, said that PIKM has entered a routine calendar which will be held every year. He hoped that the activity would continue to get support from the rector in order to be held on a larger scale. "The participants are not only from Unimal, but all of Aceh," he said before the Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Dr. Baidaai, who closed the activity.
Well, the closing ceremony should be held more creative with strict time discipline and reduce ceremonial. In some previous events, there were at least five time-consuming remarks. The committee chairman, the chairman of Himako, the chair of the study program, the Dean of FISIP, and finally the representative of the chancellor, gave a speech so it looked like a speech contest.
The committee must also be disciplined at the time to avoid stretching out until midnight. In the past, local Aceh comedians who were invited to fill the event finally returned home before appearing because after waiting for two hours from the schedule, he had not yet got a turn because the program was delayed up to two hours.

Memperkuat Tradisi Kreatif Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunikasi
Pekan Ilmiah Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PIKM) menjadi ajang bagi mahasiswa program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Malikussaleh untuk menguji keterampilan dalam berbagai bidang. Berbagai lomba digelar selama tujuh hari atau lebih dan selalu ditutup dengan Malam Puncak atau pada masa lalu disebut Malam Komunikasi.
Dalam beberapa helatan sebelumnya, beberapa bidang lomba bukan hanya untuk mahasiswa Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi Unimal semata, tetapi terbuka untuk semua mahasiwa dari berbagai perguruan tinggi di Aceh, baik negeri maupun swasta. Keterlibatan mahasiswa dari seluruh Aceh—semisal dalam lomba menulis artikel dan fiksi—meningkatkan gengsi perlombaan. Selain itu, momen itu menjadi ajang silaturahim karya para mahasiswa di seluruh Aceh.
Sayangnya, lomba terbuka bagi seluruh mahasiswa Aceh, dalam beberapa even terakhir hanya lomba karya tulis yang berlaku bagi mahasiswa seluruh Aceh. Selebihnya perlombaan yang semakin eksklusif. Jangkauan lomba semakin sempit karena hanya terbuka bagi mahasiswa Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik Universitas Malikussaleh.
Akibatnya, jumlah peserta semakin berkurang, mengikuti kualitas lomba karena tingkat persaingan yang kian rendah. Gaung perlombaan pun kian terbatas karena hanya bergema di sekelas prodi. Alih-alih bergema sampai ke tingkat nasional, keluar dari program studi pun tidak.
Namun, perubahan itu bisa dimaklumi jika mahasiswa berhadapan dengan masalah klasik, yakni minimnya anggaran. Karena sudah menjadi kendala klasik, harusnya mahasiswa bisa mempersiapkan sejak awal. Sumber anggaran jangan hanya mengandalkan dari kampus semata yang memang sangat terbatas. Mahasiswa yang menjadi panitia, dengan dukungan prodi dan fakultas, bisa melebarkan sayap untuk mencari anggaran di luar.
Skema penganggaran seperti itu sudah pernah dilakukan sebelumnya. Namanya juga even kreatif, mahasiswa juga harus kreatif menggelar acara ilmiah dengan dana terbatas tetapi memberi dampak luas bagi universitas dalam skala lokal dan nasional.
Dalam PIKM Ke-V yang sudah berlangsung, aneka lomba digelar seperti pidato dalam bahasa Inggris, stand up komedi, tari, film, akustik, bahkan lomba tradisional seperti lomba bakiak dan tarik tambang. “Lomba olahraga tradisional digelar untuk mengingatkan kembali permainan tradisional yang ada, selain menjalin keakraban di antara mahasiswa,” ujar Ketua Panitia Lomba, Ade Pradana.
Malam puncak aneka lomba yang berlangsung selama sepekan tersebut berlangsung di Gedung ACC Uteunkot, Lhokseumawe, Minggu (6/10/2019) malam. Berbagai kegiatan yang mengusung tema “Civilization of Human Communication" berakhir dalam acara penutupan yang dibungkus dengan serangkain panggung seni serta pengumuman pemenang.
Ketua Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi, Kamaruddin Hasan, memberikan apresiasi kepada panitia dan Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Komunukasi (Himako) yang sudah bekerja keras menggelar ajang tahunan di Prodi Ilmu Komuniasi. “Segala segala keterbatasan yang ada, kegiatan PIKM Ke-V berlangsung sukses,” katanya di hadapan pada hadirin yang terdiri dari segenap civitas academica Universitas Malikussaleh.
Ketua Himako Universitas Malikussaleh, Muchsalmina, mengatakan PIKM sudah masuk kalender rutin yang akan digelar setiap tahun. Ia mengharapkan kegiatan tersebut terus mendapatkan dukungan dari rektorat agar bisa digelar dalam skala yang lebih besar. “Pesertanya bukan saja dari Unimal, tapi seluruh Aceh,” katanya di hadapan Pembantu Rektor III Bidang Kemahasiswaan, Dr Baidwai yang menutup kegiatan tersebut.
Nah, acara penutupan pun harusnya digelar lebih kreatif dengan disiplin waktu yang ketat serta mengurangi seremoinal. Dalam beberapa even terdahulu, setidaknya ada lima sambutan yang menyita waktu. Ketua panitia, ketua Himako, ketua prodi, Dekan FISIP, dan terakhir yang mewakili rektor, memberikan sambutan sehingga terlihat seperti lomba pidato.
Panitia juga harus disiplin pada waktu untuk menghindari acara molor sampai tengah malam. Dulu, pelawak lokal Aceh yang diundang mengisi acara akhirnya pulang sebelum tampil karena setelah menunggu dua jam dari jadwal, ia belum juga mendapat giliran karena acara molor sampai dua jam.
