In our option (and from our experience), Reddit ads are one of the most underrated and underused types of social media advertising in existence today. Those that use Reddit will be well aware of the sheer amount of traffic that the website generates - and all of this can be utilised to drive traffic to your site, online store or blog with Reddit ads.
Getting started is easy. You can just go ahead, login into Reddit and set up a sponsored post in almost no time at all…but this isn’t something we’d advise. Instead, we recommend following a short series of what we deem to be ‘Golden Reddit Rules’, that should help to increase the reach, power and effectiveness of your sponsored posts and ads on the Reddit platform. And, in today’s article, we will touch upon these to point you in the right direction.

Exceptional content: Your content has to be of the absolute finest quality; and when we say quality, we mean quality. If you want reddit users to engage with (and like) your content, then it must be informative, entertaining, easy to read and more than adequately cover the topic in hand. If you do tick all of these boxes, then it is highly likely that your karma will shoot up thanks to the inevitable mass of upvotes that will be sent your (content’s) way.
Be relevant: All too often we see redditers making posts that aren’t all that relevant to the topic (or subreddit) in hand. Whether you’re posting new content or commenting on the content of others, be sure that you remain on topic. Don’t post for the sake of posting, and only post links where appropriate. The best mindset for Reddit is to be 100% focused on helping others, i.e. by sharing really, really good content. Promotion and advertising can come once you’ve established yourself or your brand (at least a little).
Provide a summary: If redditers are presented with a large wall of text, they may instantly be turned off and not bother to read it (regardless of how useful it might be). On Reddit it is customary (and polite) to post what is known as a ‘tl;dr’, which is basically a few bullet points outlining what your post is about. This is typically done at the beginning of an article, but can also be posted at the end. Just like we’ve mentioned above, your goal should be to provide worthwhile content and a hassle-free experience for your fellow Reddit users.
Promote others: ‘What? Promote the content of others?!’, you’re no doubt thinking. Yes, that’s right. Promoting other’s posts (sparingly, mind you), is another way by which you can increase your karma and gain the trust of other redditers. Many of those wanting to post Reddit ads (in whichever form they desire) will often start well by adding valuable content, but will then soon slide down the slippery slope of over-the-top promotion, which is a big no-no and a real turn off for the majority of Reddit users. So, promote others, share links to other sites (that you don’t own or have anything to do with) and be a good Reddit citizen.
…and there you have it, folks - four surefire ways to get your Reddit advertising life off to the best possible start.
