Devin DI Dakta, real name Anthony Clarke, is one of the most promising acts in Dancehall at the moment. What separates him from the pack is that his recent topics and videos address issues in society that many artistes seem to over look. He is also well versed in the music business, this can be seen in his recent interviews which are linked below.
In the video for "When I'm gone", Devin takes the role of a homeless, mentally ill individual, known in Jamaica as a "mad man". While the song is focused on his own demons, the lyrics in the chorus makes a general statement that anyone can relate to. I personally am feeling his latest releases and I see him going very far in the music business and setting trends that many artistes will follow.
Devin is the youngest nominee for a Grammy award in the Reggae category. He rose to fame when he was crowned the winner of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition in 2015 which is a major talent show on the island of Jamaica. He took a break to study the music business for 2 years and reappeared in 2019 with a winning formula that focuses on international capitalization of his arts.
