Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, and largest XRP holder, was worth more than $59 billion as Ripple recently peaked, which moved him briefly ahead of Mark Zuckerberg to 5th of world’s richest people. The 100% zoom for Ripple last week moved it directly behind Bitcoin and completed a 30,000% rise last year.
Jed McCaleb created Ripple in 2012, and although has since moved on, still has holdings believed to be around $20 billion. McCaleb then created Stellar, with tokens known as Lumens and is currently worth around $12 billion and also a top 10 crypto.
Ripple helps banks shift money between foreign currencies through a smooth and unified process, and has more than 100 banks using the tech. Much of the volume trading of the actual Ripple tokens is occurring in South Korea. It’s unclear how much the value of the token will hold up compared to the practical value of its software. But for the moment, the Ripple is ringing out far and wide.
