Today is quite exciting, for me at least. I'm going to be going for a small road trip and I'm looking forward to finding some picturesque places along the way to photograph, much like the one above.
Driving is something that I enjoy - except when I'm sitting in grid lock traffic, then not so much. Out on the open road though, getting a nice long stretch ahead of me with greenery on either side, the window open and the wind in my hair while I sing at the top of my lungs because nobody's there to deafen except me, there's a freedom in that.
I'm planning on stopping along the way somewhere for a bite to eat and a cup of coffee. No laptop, no need to check my phone each few hours, nobody to call and no messages that need sending.
There is quite possibly going to be a stop off at a beach if the trip planning I did works out. My navigator Doris wasn't talking to me a few days ago. I think I pissed her off at some stage swearing at her because I wouldn't drive into a river. She went silent on me and instead of me hearing "in 300m turn left" my phone just started making weird "ding" noises. Not sure if the different tones of ding meant different directions, but boy did it drive me bonkers. Doris sulked like this for three whole days. Eventually I had started to give up and decided it was better for my sanity to get lost than open maps on my phone. She must have been reading my mind because suddenly she started telling me to head east again. Welcome back Doris, nice to have you along for the ride.
It's been a little while since I've felt this kind of excited anticipation and it feels wonderful. Almost like something fantastic is waiting for me at the destination. Perhaps that's wishful thinking, but either way, I'm going to make it a good trip. I'm planning on testing some photography techniques I found a last week as well (if I get the opportunity). Now that I can take a thousand photographs in one go, there won't be any holding back either in terms of pushing the shutter.
Thank fuck for weekends!
