The fact RSS = freedom to post whatever you want from spaces you control is nothing new to all the folks on Hive. Yet, I do feel the need to occasionally remind folks that the direct line of sharing your mission and message with the world is RSS.
No one can stop your business messaging from getting out to the world when an RSS feed that you own and control is a core part of your content delivery. Luckily Hive is RSS feed friendly. That is not the case on other social media platforms and there is a very good reason why.
When someone subscribes to your blog or podcast directly from you, there are no middle men. When I first heard about podcasting my immediate (and I do mean immediate) thought was,
"You mean I can record something, put it up on the web, and no one can stop me? Sign me up!"
What's even better is that someone out in the world can discover your content, hear your message and say,
"Hey, that resonates with me and I want to make sure I don't miss a single post/episode that they release so I'm going to subscribe."
That's powerful.
Oh, and don't get caught up in the numbers. If you could stand in front of a room with 10 people who were attentively listening to you share your mission and message how awesome would that be? Pretty awesome. Now I want you to realize that when someone jams those earbuds in to listen to you, they are your attentive audience. More so because you are in essence whispering in their ears. So if you've got a blog or podcast and the numbers seem small, stop yourself from caring about vanity metrics. Imagine each of those subscriber as a person in a room with you.
